Worked at Popeyes one summer in high school. The bossy black ladies gave me shite the entire day. The storage room was upstairs in a glorified attic and they ran my arse up and down those stairs chasing the wrong shite just to watch me get chewed out by the manager. Final straw, one of the chicken cooks asked me to relieve her so she could go smoke. Didn’t know she had cranked the fryer up to the point it erupted when I dropped a basket of chicken in causing grease to splatter all over me. Took off the apron, threw it in the fryer and left. Never went and got my check either. 6 hours @ 3.35 wasn’t that important.

I pushed carts at target during the dead of summer. The lesbian manager told me it was unprofessional to roll up my sleeves and wear a bandana. I took off my reflective vest and told her to mail my last check.

34 years with a near perfect work record. I had worked my way up to the highest position a person with my training could attain. New snotty nosed boss hated me from the first day he saw me. Looked to me like he was going to fire me so I went to HIS boss, told him what I thought. I told him they weren't going to fire me because I wanted to retire.
I don't know if it means anything but in one year his boss was fires and a short time later another guy went to I.R. with a complaint against him. He was busted back to a lower position and given a pretty bad job.

I was 18 working for a construction company out of Jackson, Mississippi. We were in Bayou Sorrel building flood walls. My buddy and me were finishing the concrete and helping set forms and pour concrete. Our main job was finishing concrete though. We had to haul water from the river up the levee. We were working our arse off.
Our boss was an alcoholic and would drink during working hours, he was an arse hole. He told the superintendent we were screwing around and behind on our job which was a flat out lie. My buddy told the super he was done and asked me if I was coming with him. I told the super, "well, that's my ride" and we both walked off the job.
We drove back by the job on the way home and the forman was having to finish the concrete by himself. We had another job before we even got home.

My kitchen manager hired a new cook who came from a construction job…his first day was working with me putting away items from our delivery truck. I explain to open the next box and put the items on the shelf, pointing to where it goes. Guy is motionless just staring…I ask if everything ok..he says yes, I say “great let’s get going”…that’s all I say and I walk off to put something else away…
Come back 5 minutes later and new guy is gone…can’t find him. I call him and he said he quit because he wasn’t going to work for someone that treated him that way…I asked what way…he said telling him what to do…
Told him he better start his own business if he wants to eat.

fresh out of college, I got a job as supervisor for a multi route distribution company. I was responsible for 8 drivers and their activities.
Over a few weeks, One of my drivers, who was good friends with my immediate supervisor, had been failing to turn in his receipts. Turns out he was using company money to pay a gambling debt. With my unsuccessful efforts to collect from the driver, my supervisor became frustrated and gave me the old ultimatum “it’s either you or him.”
Since I couldn’t collect money that was already spent, I fired the driver and started operating his very profitable route. When my supervisor found out what I had done, he melted and he told me I couldn’t run a route and be a supervisor. I told him that was fine and I would keep the route. When he threatened to fire me, his supervisor told him “ Hell no. He’s bringing the route current. He can keep the job.”
I made more money on that route than I was making “managing and supervising” anyway.

Lou Holtz said it’s never good to go back so… burn that bridge down to the water line.

Have an older friend that is a very bright engineer and was very successful in sales. He was so good with the product they wanted him as the engineer in charge of remanufacturing at their service center. That’s not the job he wanted and turned it down twice. He was also not a fan of the man who would be his boss.
He is driving one day and this guy calls him telling him he had him transferred to that position, he said hang on a second I’ll call you right back. He called his wife to pick him up and left his truck on the side of the road. Called a major competitor and had a job with them the next day. Didn’t call the guy back lol

I quit a job once to start a competing business. My supervisor at the time was a bit of an overbearing oaf, and he was sitting in my office debriefing me on the projects I was leaving behind. His chair was out of the line of sight of anyone outside the office.
One of my coworkers came walking in my office with his hand outstretched and said, “Proud of you boy; sticking it to these motherfrickers!” He was about halfway through “motherfricker” when he saw Mike.

She got in my face to yell again, like she used to love to do. I usually just ate it, but I was fed up that day and said something to the effect of, "lady you can suck my dick. It's not my fault you're mad because you're 50 years old and only making $13 an hour." I walked off, and that was the end of that.
That was very out of line of me,
I don’t think it was out of line. I think she was. There is no reason to yell at people short of an emergency.

Not me, but I knew a guy that worked in IT for a major company back in the mid 90’s. He had quite a bit of responsibility in the division he worked in. This was when PC’s had made major inroads in corporate America but nightly backups were still in the future. He formatted his hard drive, put a note on his desk saying “I quit”, and walked out of the building.

Is there a chance they know already? Might calm your nerves some.
When I quit my first job, I knocked on my manager door, walked in with a note in an envelope and said I needed to talk to him about something. Before I said anything else or handed him the letter, he asked, are you quitting?
Either it was obvious on my part (don’t think so) or it’s not his first time seeing it there. Was nervous at first but he definitely took the edge off by pre-empting me.

I don’t know if I’d call it funny.
I do however suggest small business owners not hire college students saying “come work while your in school!” So that you can hire them for cheap and then a month later complain that they aren’t around when you need them because they go to classes.
You’re opening yourself up to the potential for some pretty spectacular quitting stories. Atleast one of which I’ve been personally responsible for.

Not exactly fired but, I grew up on a tenant farm. One of the farms sold to a new owner, who had other land farmed by another farmer in the area. He told us he wasn’t pushing us off immediately, but it would be nice if we could find another farm so he could consolidate to the other guy. Fast forward three years and we had rented another farm for the next year. We set up a meeting to let the guy know we were done. During the meeting, before we told him we were leaving he offered his share of the ratoon (2nd crop) rice crop to leave. We just agreed and took the roughly $12,000 and ran.

I just recently left my job for a very lucrative opportunity. About 3 and a half weeks ahead of me making the jump, I get a call from my boss on the weekend….. his boss had been contacted by a real estate agent who could have potentially handled my relocation. I guess they had ties.
So yeah, luckily I was pretty well regarded so there was no funny business, but it was highly unprofessional. So input in my notice early and worked my time out.

Not really. If somebody is in your face yelling or treating you like a dog, all bets are off. I see white when that happens to me and I completely snap.
Or as the locals like to say “don’t disrespeck me!”

Used to run a bread route working 12 hour days , one Saturday my last stop was closed because the company had filed for bankruptcy, it was one of my biggest stops.
I called the supervisor, he tells me to come on in , nothing we can do about it .
I get excited because I’m getting off early , well I get in and he tells me to go back to the store , he just off the phone with them and they will now take delivery.
I was already going to quit but was waiting to find something else , after he told me that , I handed him the keys to the truck and told him , you can do it , I quit.
Got in my truck and went home .

Not sure if this is considered quitting or getting fired, but in college I worked at 2 different restaurants. Both had their Christmas parties the same night in relatively the same area. Requested off from both weeks before and for the next morning.
I had already put my 2 weeks at one restaurant and they scheduled me the morning after the parties. I told them I wasn’t coming in (it was the last shift I was schedule for that week).
Even after it, they still put me on the next schedule. I showed up and they told I no longer worked there. Didn’t bother me any and I went home
