I just learned, from a Jewish coworker that came from the NE, that the Rabbi or Mohel sucks the blood from the incision, in very traditional circumcision ceremonies. And it has become less popular because some Rabbi's gave the infants STD's that killed them.

Holy hell! I have never heard this, but this could be some form of child molestation right?

You think?!

The ancient method of performing metzitzah—metzitzah b'peh, or oral suction—has become controversial. The process has the mohel place his mouth directly on the circumcision wound to draw blood away from the cut. The majority of Jewish circumcision ceremonies do not use metzitzah b'peh, but some Haredi Jews use it.

Thank God the Mohel in that Seinfeld episode missed and circumcised Jerry's finger.

Go to Monsey, NY. I went to Shabbaat dinner. You can't use electricity after sundown, everyone walks. No cell phones, nothing that "breaks a circuit". From the Old Testament, of not lighting a fire, working, etc. on the Sabbath. It looked like an Amish community. But run-down. Men don't work, because they are in temple. Women handle everything. I could tell you about the crazy rules regarding sex and such, it's crazy.

I found this article.

[quote]Health officials have reached a tentative agreement with New York City's ultra-Orthodox community over regulating the controversial practice known as metzitzah b'peh, or "oral suction circumcisions," the Associated Press reported Tuesday.
The tradition of metzitzah b'peh goes back to biblical times but has created a modern-day dilemma for religiously observant mankind. New York City officials linked the practice to 17 cases of infant herpes since 2000, of whom two died. In the latest development, the city will stop requiring mohels who use oral suction to have parents sign consent forms, which many hadn't complied with anyway. Instead the city will focus its efforts on educating members of the ultra-Orthodox community about the risks and dangers of the practice. "Our goal is to achieve awareness of the risks," city representative Avi Fink stated.
What is oral suction circumcision, or metzitzah b'peh, and where did it come from?

How so? I have listened to my coworker of several years, from the NE, where they are very Orthodox. Say you are Jewish, all you want, they do it different in places like Monsey. Where are you from again?

That is just orthodox jew sabbath observance. Im talking Hasidic Jew level.

What you are describing is pretty common outside the south. New Orleans does have two communities that are orthodox.
