I'd have to give the kids something if it was me. My conscious would not allow me to.

I have no idea whether or not Jerry Lewis was an a-hole (although it would be easy to believe that he was) but people aren't absolutely entitled to the money their parents earned. If the relationship was bad then you are unlikely to inherit much, if anything.
And it was his money. If he blew it all on hookers, viagra, and blow when he was 90 he was entitled to do that. If he left it to a person who cared for him and loved him that seems like a pretty expectable outcome. Granted, the homeless daughter story sounds terrible. There ought to be a really terrible relationship before you completely leave out someone in that kind of poverty.
But a middle class son or daughter who hated their father should frankly go frick themselves. The bigger issue was their bad relationship. Not that their father's death wasn't profitable.

Too bad a couple of posters in this thread haven't.

There's always a black sheep of the family. But when a parent has a bad relationship with all his kids, the common denominator is the parent, not the kids.. And specifically excluding them by name is a pretty big public frick you. That said, he had a right to dispose of his estate however he wanted.

It is really easy to believe he was a dick. Probably a terrible father from what it sounds like.
But I have seen more than one person turn into a financially driven a-hole when their "loved one's" body was still cooling. That is at least as terrible viscerally to me. The sheer callusness and shallow greed, expressed at a time of grief and unresolved relationship issues, strikes me as downright evil.
I respect people who want nothing from a dead a-hole far more.

As someone who also has MD I never once had anyone call me one of "Jerry's kids" and even if they did I couldn't give a shite because I'm not a joyless individual.
Dude I am far from joyless. When I would be in an argument with someone (like friends do... over stupid shite), if it got out of hand, someone would drop it on me. The only thing that bothered me about it was the fact that it was something they could come back with.
But have you never been stereotyped based on what people see on the telethon?
quote:
Jerry Lewis may have been an a-hole but he raised millions upon millions of dollars for research into treatment, wheelchairs, orthotics, and other medical equipment, neurology visits, summer camps, etc... all for people with MD.
And while they were raising more and more money, they increasingly cut cost in the things they did fund.
And frick those summer camps. I went one time when I was young, I think I ended up coming home after a few nights. Not to be mean, but I was never around other people in wheelchairs so the camp made me feel uncomfortable.
Maybe I just came from a fricked up family, but when all the kids in my family got around each other, we ended up fighting and throwing shite at each other, etc so it was hard for me to get use to being treated, I guess what I considered "different".
