State and local governments do things in order to maximize Federal dollars rolling in. Republicans and small governments do it too. That's why you sometimes see 50 cops standing around at DUI checkpoints.

Hospitals are hurting just like any other business right now. Their money making procedures are prohibited and their overall case load is down. Lots of stories of doctors, nurses, and other support staff getting furloughed and forced to take unpaid leave.

I hope the hospitals will remain solvent.

This goes directly against all the bullshite you spew about everyone is still getting fully paid and raises are happening, etc
Its hourly shift employees you mouthbreather. We actually arent treating them any differently than ever. When census is low, they get called off. Thats standard no matter the situation. And with census being very low, they are being cut.

Welcome to hospitals lnch.

Salaried employees are still fully paid. 100% of merit increases still happening

A plateau that would have taken place regardless and at which point the capacity was increased to handle the case load.

Two more weeks of 17-18% growth would have probably pushed New Orleans over capacity.

There were already plans in place to begin moving Region 1 COVID cases (especially critical cases) to Baton Rouge if the hospitalization rates remained constant after April 8th.

This would have caused a spillover effect in Baton Rouge (not saying it would have hit capacity but it would have pushed that line much higher).

The State also planned to build a makeshift COVID hospital in Baton Rouge for spillage from all other regions of the state.

The hard drop in case growth after April 8th put a halt to all of those plans.

Small town hospitals will feel the worst pain.

Larger ones will likely cut staff and some services.

This is the one big irony of this entire event.

We shut all of it down so that we can be medically prepared...and at the end of it all, the medical field will have less physicians, less nurses, and less clinics.

It is somewhat hilarious when you think about it.

Not happening for the lowly hourly folks though.

With forced PTO.

I do worry about 2020 unit bonuses though. That is a significant percentage of salary for Ochsner physicians.

So yes, Governor Edwards straight up lied to each and every one of us today to justify continuing his stay at home order for another 15 days in order to cash in on an additional $150M in Federal Aid.

It's an exponentially worse example of the PPE fiasco in 2009.

Why are you assuming two more weeks of that kind of growth? Convenient.

Regardless, plans were in place. The convention center was ready. People would have gotten the care they needed. We would be over this sooner.

Is this another case of yall not getting the right info to management? Because the conference call yesterday specifically said merit increases are going to be reduced due to the loss of revenue.

I think its a case of you just lying

This isnt a lost in translation issue. There have been clear emails sent directly from Warner showing merit isnt cut

Yea, because you're all in on defending the system no matter how much BS you post.

Well, that must not be for the nurses. Just like the GPT policy didn't originally exempt expectant nurses.

At best, yall fail at effectively communicating policy to unit managers.

What is more likely is that you don't know everything like you think you do.

Just looking it through hard numbers.

There was constant growth for 2-3 weeks following the closure orders. The growth plummeted.

This has been the course in basically every hotspot that implemented shutdown/closure orders. This makes sense given the incubation period of the disease.

Maybe, but for how long? A week? Ten days? Two weeks?

If you continue to have 15-20% hospitalization growth every seven days, you going to capsize any system regardless of protective measures.
