Well, hopefully you're majoring in something that will allow you to pay those loans back easily.

Oh I completely agree. You won't see me bitching about that. If I want a degree in gonna work for it and take out loans and pay them back like a responsible person would. Not going to gripe about it like the rest of the people graduating college these days do. I know what I'm getting into when I take it out.

Was in PE and then I switched to construction management after a year. Glad I did too seeing that petroleum isn't a good field to be in at the moment.

I paid for school using student loans and millions of other Americans have too. The state doesn't need to take such a risk as giving out free college like it's candy. Academic scholarships should be exclusive, and going to college is not a right.

You must not be a millenial. You are supposed to bitch and ask later for the loans you took out in good faith to be relieved by "The Man"

No I am, born in 1995. My parents just raised me properly. I refuse to be like the rest of my generation. No good whiners that think life should be handed to them. You want something, gotta work for it.

Yes and no on the 100%. They cap it at about $203 dollars per hour. UF costs about $225 ish per hour so a full time student taking 12 hours would still pay about $250 per semester in tuition.

The good meal plan is about $2200 and a dorm room is about $2800 per semester.

I use UF because their engineering program is ranked highest in the state. My little one (HS junior)has a 4.52 and got a 29 on the ACT her sophomore year in HS.

FWIW, she wants to go to LSU but the cost differential has quashed it so far.

College shouldn't be a right it should be a privilege. That's why degrees are so devalued these days. 26 is decently high for a cutoff, but if you keep saying "what about 25 that's basically a 26," becomes "24 is basically a 25" and so on and so forth.

Perhaps it was originally meant to help people with financial problems, but I have no problem with it being redesigned to be more of "keep the best kids in LA" program

So Liberals want free college, loan forgiveness, etc

Then our liberal frickstik governor expands Medicaid, which helps a lot of uneducated people, but then takes action to give less money to a program that gives hope of an education to many that now won't be able to afford college and basically end up on the government tit and likely on Medicaid later in life.

WTF do liberals want?

“I am scared about TOPS, however,” Reneau said. “TOPS critically affects enrollment and if they don’t fund the program, our enrollment will go down, which means our finances go down with it.”

This quote is very important as the loss of TOPS at LSU will be a double whammy financially

This means that LSU students will have to prepare themselves for a massive tuition hike in 2017 to offset the losses that TOPS will create.

I scored a 19 and a 20 on the ACT, but I graduated cum laude and in the top 10% of my graduating class. Using standardized testing as a measure of future college success is dumb because of people like me.

Well boo hoo. The good students will likely remain on TOPS while the state will stop paying for mediocre students. Good.

Those mediocre students can get loans and pay back their education like most everyone else, or go into the electricians apprenticeship like they should have in the first place.

Good on you, but I see no way the State should have taken a risk on you with public monies.

Parents should pay for their kids education (like mine made sure they did).

Jeez talk about entitlement.

My parents job, so to speak, was to make sure I made it to 18 healthy, with my head on straight, and with knowledge as tools to take care of myself. If I wanted to go to college; take on debt or work my way through. I worked. If I wanted to live at home after high school, I had a choice: if in school, grades were due, if not it was rent. So I agree with you here:
quote:

If they didn't do that then take out a loan or get a job or sell a kidney.

But this:
quote:

The middle is the burden of America.
is bullshite. Its the middle that end up paying for most of the burdens you list.

I think 23 would be good medium... Most kids with 26+ are highly educated (private or magnet students) who come from good families and don't need monetary support. I don't see how this benefits many kids who could benefit from tops.

Fix the GD constitution that only allows cuts in education and healthcare.
