I like him and his music and think he’s an incredible songwriter , most of which have a left leaning view.

I don’t care what anyone’s political beliefs are and they certainly have the right to speak their opinion. What I don’t like is when they use the stage at a venue I have bought a ticket for to expound on that view. I don’t like being held hostage. Sing, shoot the shite and let me go home. Save it for the talk shows.

yep. you sold tickets based on your music, not your puerile political views to the extent they aren't embodied in that music. obviously it's the artist's prerogative to do whatever at the show, but it's also mine to say f that shite i'll stick to listening to the recordings i've already paid for and not supporting the bullshite.

I agree for the most part, but The Nashville Sound isn't as good as Southeastern, or Something More Than Free or even Sirens of the Ditch. Seems like he mailed it on several songs.

I've seen him 4 times and he's never gotten political at a show I attended. I go get a drink when he does White Man's World and enjoy the rest of the show.

i saw him in a brewery and on an outdoor stage in Jan 2015, and he didn't say or do anything remotely political. It was refreshing. he told stories at the small show, and had plenty opportunity to say something stupid.

fast-forward to the BLM hysteria and post-Trump meltdown, and it sounds like a different story. hope not. my parents saw him fairly recently in Savannah and said there was nothing political (apart from some dumb lyrics).

2017 was a son of a bitch for me too, but I haven't broken down and am not mad as hell about it, and it certainly had nothing to do with politics.

I’ll be there. Could gaf about his politics. If that deterred me we would have no forms of entertainment left.

Trump is president now and liberal hate speech is illegal

Yea, talking or singing about politics is one thing, but if he's locking the doors at his concerts, that's fricked up.

Meh, dude's talented but barking up the wrong tree.

FWIW, I've seen several BLM stickers on the back glass of cars lately. The colored "30A"?

Does he play the White Guilt song live? I can’t imagine paying to see that

He’s always been a lefty and I was fine with it. He was a lefty when he was with DBT. They are lefties too and that’s fine.

The Trump deal has alienated me from him though...not even because of Trump.

His wife sang at a couple of Hillary rallies and is a big Hillary supporter. I can’t wrap my mind around active support for Hillary in that fashion. I understand not supporting Trump...don’t understand campaigning for HC.

When Hillary lost, Isbell - I’m sure through the influence of his wife - went ultra-lefty.

There is plenty to be dismissive about relative to Trump and the Right. However, when you make shite up and/or support fabrications like BLM, you really rub me personally the wrong way.

In short, I get tired of white folks stating I’m inherently and irrevocably a racist just by being a white, male conservative....yet if I vote Democrat I am immediately pure, intelligent and accepting of all. It is such a juvenile, simplistic way of thinking.

I’ve seen him twice in the last year. Not a single political comment during either show.

If you’re a fan and post here and you’re reading this you probably don’t want to look at his twitter

I get it. I’ve never heard him make a statement in concert. I just take issue with his other statements. I cannot take a person seriously when they are willing to carry the flag of falsehood for people like the Clintons or BLM.

I didn't realize Amanda Shires was such a hack. Sucks. Hell, I'd somehow missed the her husband was too until recently. I saw her a couple summers ago open for Ryan Adams and loved her. bummer.

and i agree with you. he probably gets some satisfaction knowing he has so many fans who are sort of southern-fratastic and are the intended subject of his manufactured white-self-loathing.

a lifetime of drugs and alcohol can take their toll on a man's mind and spirit. i think i liked him better when he was drunk though, tbh (same with Ryan Adams for that matter). but i'm glad they're all sober now for their own good and their kids (future ones for RA).
