The Okinawans consider themselves to be Okinawan and not Japanese. Less now than previously but much like Catalonians in Spain. They have a rather turbulent history with the main islands . In the post war area Leftists gained a lot more influence on the Okinawa than in Honshu because there was an indigenous movement. That expresses itself as anti- Americanism, especially after a marine rapes a girl or murders someone. No offense intended but It happens.

The people in Singapore speak English only because it’s a common language. I don’t think any ethnic group or religion holds more than a 40% majority. It’s an extremely diverse population with many different ethnic neighborhoods. It’s their culture.

Talking of Japan

But what about the second part of original comment?

Uruguay is the best if you want to live an isolationist country that is not so technological advanced and has essentially the same culture as America more or less (probably a bit better).

Count me in!

Now the only problem is the gun laws and it is very hard to find a good paying job there. Most young Uruguayans leave the country completely or have to live with family until they get married.

If I could find a good paying remote job that would allow me to live there I’d probably move tomorrow.

Argentina has the pro of it being way cheaper to live than Uruguay is but its worse in basically every other way. But I’m hoping Milei can turn it around.

You can’t chew gum in public, you will get thrown out of the country for smoking weed or put in jail for 20 years. You can’t even visit the country if you have drugs in your system.

Now if none of this bothers you I would agree Singapore might be the best country to live in if you want to live in a city state.

US is turning into a 3rd world shithole or even worse. almost any moderately sized city is a cesspool of violence, homelessness, and drug use. most of the infrastructure is outdated and run down.

Yes you can. You just can’t sell it. And I wouldn’t recommend throwing it away on the sidewalk.

This is a small thing, but I’m in recovery and have traveled with addicts and recovering addicts, and I can assure you this isn’t true either.

The weed thing is stupid, I agree, but keep in mind we still have people serving prison sentences for weed in the US.

Say all you want about Singapore being undesirable for their strictness, but I’d argue the US being so loose is much worse, I mean we’re literally seeing the end of the regime cycle in Plato’s Republic in real time. You think they’d put up with a Seattle “Summer of Love” in Singapore? You think they’d canonize George Floyd?

Folks in Singapore do not have the right to free speech, there is no freedom of the press and they can and are frequently imprisoned for long periods of times without any formal charges, often when they have said or done something the government did not care for. They also allow employees to be treated basically as property. It is a authoritarian nation that most westerners would find impossible to abide by.
