Youtube video and breakdown of what really happened. The fact that CAG never gave any feedback after warning yellow weapons hold is odd.... I guess this was just and early FAFO

The day 2 Navy Tomcats shot down 2 Libyan migs, lots of debate on whether they were justified

Was working in a comm center when this happened - it was pretty exciting and surreal at the same time.

Stark incident may have had a bigger role than the 1967 incident. I know on our deployment a month later the yellow and gold was very common.

Holy shite. He saw the F4 sipping off the KC135.

Total BS that he thought a rogue actor could marry up to a gas station.

I’d never heard of this.

Well it was only 3 years after the Libyans killed a bunch of GIs in Berlin. Things were as spicy as they’d been in a while and Momar Quadahfi was feeling his oats.

The subsequent FNAEB removed him from flying status. However, he remained on active duty and later transitioned to the Navy Reserve eventually attaining the rank of CAPT. He was nominated for RADM but objections were raised by LtCol (Ret) Dorsey and others. His nomination was not approved and he retired from the Navy Reserve in June 2014.

Still proudly wore those Naval Aviator wings until the very end of his career.

He was at Tulane when I was at LSU, we dated girls from same circle of friends. He was an arrogant prick. I was good friends with an Aggie pilot from another squadron whose only comment was “I’m glad devils got him and not us”. His dad had a blue on blue kill too.
