More frat out of those 3 would be Ivars, but like I said, it has been almost empty the entire year. Go to Zee Zee's if you wanna have fun. I think the lights don't work at Duvics. I'll go there, but it is definitely a different crowd than the other two. There is always at least one homeless guy drinking at the bar.

You could also go down the street to Earl's, but that is now more of a younger crowd

It sounds like the previous owner was keeping Ivar's open despite himself. One would think cleaning the place up and a fresh coat of paint would bring a pretty good crowd.

Its not like BR has nightlife choices like NOLA.

I think people stopped going there and no changes were made to bring them back. The margins on mixed drinks and beers were ridiculous, so why not cut them back and do more volume?

The same people always have eaten there, that hasn't ever changed. The nighttime crowd is what left. I heard that Pat was just tired of being in the biz and wanted out, but have no validity to that story

I think its worth noting that he owned a yogurt place that closed down, moved, and closed down again. He's "entrepreneurial", just not that good at it.

Listen, we can all agree that Ivars had its faults. I, myself began to frequent it less the last few months because it was falling apart. But Ivars is something special that Baton Rouge needs more of (obviously not the negatives). Like Drac said, it was a bar with character. It felt like that dump you enjoyed being in. Same goes with what mikel said, a bar has to have good patrons, and I think both of those opinions feed off each other. A bar with character is going to attract good patrons.

You can't excuse the faults and the prices, but I'd rather pay $6 for a beer in a shitty bar that has all the people I like and something unique, than paying $3 for a beer in some mass produced lolBR style chain bar that is gimmicky, (Walk Ons productions, et al.)

AfrickINGMEN

The best bars in New Orleans are Le Bon Temps and places like that. Screw these strip mall, cookie cutter bars. We need to keep our unique places that have a "regular" group of patrons. It has culture.

But, it needs some changes that were mentioned in this thread. Keep the lighting and the old tables and stuff and everything hanging on the walls, just pressure wash everything, lower prices, new taplines, renovate bathrooms, better TVs, and make the outdoor patio something desirable.

And put the pool table in the side part, not in the fricking walkway. (and reupholster it)

-Clean everything
-Keep old tables and things on walls
-New tap lines
-Renovate bathrooms
-Do something cool with the outdoor patio
-Redo pool table and move into the side part
-Retrain bartenders
-Lower drink prices and/or have specials that attract a crowd on random nights. Could make it THE "Tuesday night" bar or something until profits stabilize.

Place started to go downhill when Larry sold his share back in the early-mid 90's

I am sitting next to the new owner and I literally don't think a single fact, other than his name, is correct.

I am not going to burn him up on here since I didn't ask him what of our conversation it was cool for me to post but I did show him the thread and asked some specific questions. Here are some nuggets and feel free to ask any others.

1. Linebackers. Him and Pat laughed their asses off.

2. "Keep the stuff on the walls." Not happening, it's already gone to storage as a matter of fact.

3. Closing for 10 days. Nope. More like 5. Certainly not longer than a week.

4. Golden Tee. "Staying, of course."

5. Tap lines cleaned. "Of course."

6. He has only ever run an unsuccessful yogurt shop. Not true.

7. Wings staying on menu? (My question.) "definitely"

Will review thread for additional things we discussed.

"Whole staff is staying" or "Whole staff is leaving". Neither. Some chose to stay, some chose to leave and will be replaced.

I either order a crown and Coke or a jack and Coke. I make sure to get them extra strong. Pretty hard to mess that up. Quit drinking appletinis and you won't have that problem

The people that go there don't go on a Tuesday night for drink specials

He should come up with a way to optimize the side portion of inside. Nobody really sat there at night because it was out of the way and not fun. Putting a pool table over there gets rid of some tables, and I have no idea how much revenue comes from that, so idk

It really could just use a decent cleaning and lower drink prices, and that's it. To be honest, I don't really care if it is dirty or not. Have you seen the inside of Duvics during the day? That place is bad off

They are so slow though. They have no strategy about how to crowds. This is where my beef with Ivar's started.

they need to use that portion of the bar too. That room is dead space when it could be a pretty solid room.

Walk Ons is involved in the purchase. NO.

New name? They both just stated at me when I mentioned that. My distinct impression was that they hadn't considered renaming it.

I don't have a problem because two of the girls want my nuts. When I walk in, they ask if I want a drink and start pouring without me telling them anything. I have only had a problem a handful of times, and only once got too angry and left.

I'm trying to figure out how they could that other side. Maybe knock out the wall behind the bar and open it up? Zee Zee's is good because you can relax at a table and still feel like you're partying in a bar. If you go to the other side of Ivars, you feel completely separated from the main part

I really hope they don't rename it...but if all of Pat's stuff is off the wall, might as well give it a new name too
