The cost of living isn't too bad in the Boise area. I've researched it

I have been in a very similar situation. I bought a house in central LA, got some land, and chilled.

I’d go to Texas if I were you.

Was in healtcare but have no desire to return. Looking to work around 30 hrs and week and spend time with family. I have no preference of location or vocation. Would like Colorado Utah Idaho area but it's typically expensive to live there.

If you've got $500k in cash and that's all you've got, you don't have the financial means to keep the standard of living you're probably used to having along with a 1 year old. You need financial planning help.

Ask for referrals from people smarter than you in your area.

I have 500k cash
(1) Fly to Colombia & procure 142 kilos
(2) Mule it back to the mainland
(3) Send FCP a couple of kilos for this awesome idea.
(4) Ask the OT what to do after selling 140 keys for a mere $8,680,000.

(This presupposes you can still obtain a gram for $3.50--really--in Peru/Colombia/Bolivia and sell it for the average U.S. price of $62/kilo. YMMV.)

Buy land and move to Northeast Arkansas. Area around Mountain View is very nice. $150,000 k gets you a great place.

Find you a franchise that's like an ATM to invest $200,000 in. Split the other $150k between growth and value stocks. Make sure your job can pay your bills, give you enough to maintain your "lifestyle" and put 15% in the bank
