My dad said he couldn't sleep at night when they first got ac. He was so used to hearing the attic fan. Said the ac was way too quiet for him.

My mom said when my grandmother proposed getting an ac for the house, my grandpa said "what the hell do we need that for?"

It’s miserable here in West KY. The humidity just wears you out. By 9:00 AM, you know it’s coming.

Can you imagine how bad people smelled back in the day? I bet sex smelled like spoiled milk in south Louisiana during the summer lol.

Crazy shift in attitudes for sure

shite I spent a week in Spain in 2015 staying in 3 different houses of friends of ours (we used to take in exchange students when I was a kid and remained friends with a Spanish family). None of those frickers even had AC because the temperature is basically constant, but at night it would be about 78 and I had to drink myself to sleep or else I’d toss and turn all night burning to death

When my sister moved to SF I visited for the first time and asked her to turn the air down. She said they didn't have ac. I wasn't happy.

I always have been fascinated how the Cajuns were able to adapt moving from the Canadian Atlantic seaboard straight to Louisiana. I don’t think I’ve ever read something written purely on that shell shock, but someone should write something

Every summer. Without fail. People bitching about how hot it is. Like you haven’t lived in LA your entire life.

Same people start threads in the winter about how great it is because it’s 65 degrees.

My barber is from Los Angeles and he said they didn’t have ac out there. He said all you needed was to open up the window and you had a nice breeze.

That’s fine if you grow up that way, but if you’re used to 72 AC it becomes difficult to sleep otherwise. I would imagine there is a withdrawal period for cutting it cold turkey

Growing up without AC was not good, but it was what we knew.

There were fans, ceiling fans and the cool side of the feather pillow.

But we were tired enough to sleep from being outside either working or playing.

It was a tougher way of life but no one complained, that's how it was.

This way of life now with AC and internet and video games has given us a bunch of pussies.

I will say we had the longest spring I think I ever remember
2011 was similar. Cool through May and turned 105 mid June that year and was brutal until October.
