Small businesses owners have mode this more complicated than. it needs to be by design.

I don't surcharge cards, but I run 7 figures in card sales yearly If you want to see complicated you should check out my 4 page credit card processing bill with dozens of line items adding up to thousands of dollars, its completely impossible to know what the cost is on any given transaction.

One reason I have avoided charging fees is that state laws dictate your fees should not be higher than the cost of acceptance. The langauge does not clearly state in aggregate or on each individual transaction, I don't want to get drug into the ineveitable class actions that will eventually happen due to that ambiguity.

bullshite. If a biz doesn’t want to to pay a percentage of a card payment, don’t accept cards. It’s clear you have no idea how this stuff works.

- Baseline Consumer & Debit Rates (Examples)Visa Regulated Debit: Generally priced around $0.05% + $0.21.
- Visa Retail Consumer Credit (Traditional Rewards): Benchmarked around 1.51% + $0.10 for standard qualification tiers.
- Visa Signature Retail Credit: Ranges higher around 1.65% to 2.10% + $0.10 depending on specific performance thresholds.

We got away from using credit cards except on really big purchases to get some cashback. Our credit cards used to get hacked like every other year. Since using debit cards exclusively since 2018, we've never once had it compromised. I like to manage our monthly budget and the money coming out instantly makes it easier to do that than it accumulating paying off once a month.

This is only when you run it as a debit charge and enter a pin(unless the pin is waived). Not when you swipe a debit card as a credit card charge right?

Is there any relief or complaint mechanism for consumers in the Dodd-Frank federal law?
quote:

7News asked a local resident, Danae Lawson, whether she knew it was against federal law and how she felt about it.

“I did not know that it was against federal law, and that actually makes me more upset by it,” she responded in shock.

Senate Bill 254, introduced by Beth Mizell, aims to enforce a federal rule under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that prohibits surcharges on debit card transactions.

“I just got a text asking me where this came from, and it came from the fact that this is in our face every day, that we’re being charged a surcharge for use of our debit card, which is basically our own money. We’ve been ignoring federal law on this since 2010,” Mizell said during the meeting before the board on March 11.

But despite the law, consumers across the country and here at home have been posting receipts on social media showing added fees, some dating back years.

I am not sure about the experts the below. I always thought you had to choose to run your bank card as a debit card and enter PIN (unless waved) instead of running as a “credit” card.

quote:

Under Visa and Mastercard card network policies, debit card surcharges are not allowed, and even credit card fees must be clearly posted before purchase.

While some businesses claim debit purchases are processed as credit, experts say the card number itself identifies them as debit, meaning the surcharge shouldn’t apply.

Wrong.

I run several hundred debit card transactions a day that don’t need a PIN #. Ever enter your PIN # when buying a hamburger at restaurant or when buying a beer?
