It's more than that.

Doubt it. If you were, you’d realize this tax break effects Exxon’s profit margin. Which effects your end of the year bonus

This is amother issue.

We need to drop “no child left behind” and we need to convert that mindset to supporting our brightest at all costs.

What we do with the leftovers? Take a bit from George Carlin and put them in a square state like Wyoming and put a huge fence all around it?

Yep. All they've done since the implementation of that is lower the standards so even the dumbest kids can pass

Sweet Jesus! EBR already gets nearly 10K per student and does crap with it.

That's just tax money. That doesn't take into account grants, donations and private funded programs, like the ones Exxon provides.

Exxon and LSU are the main two things preventing BR from becoming a shithole.

Thanks for the updated numbers! I am looking up the numbers for Cy-Fair and Katy ISD for the past year to confirm those numbers. But I was off for the starting teacher salary in Cy-Fair ISD. It is now $54K

quote:

Budget projects include a $1,000 increase in starting teacher salaries to make them $54,000 and giving classroom teachers and other employees a 3 percent salary raise, for which about $21 million is allocated.

y-Fair Teachers got a 3% raise last year and I remember Louisiana teachers got a $1,000 raise for first time in many years?

That's ridiculous.
We to make sure that every child has a chance at a good, HS education.
We should have advanced classes and basic classes in all subjects.
If a child is disruptive they should be removed from school and sent to a school especially designed for them. If it's like a prison, so be it.
Segregate those that stifle learning.

I would guess most problem students that do graduate are still basically illiterate and uneducated. They just have a diploma

Shouldn't anyone in BR, especially those close to the employers affected by ITEP decisions, be prepared for shutdowns? I can't imagine any family close to, say, GP, BASF or the pipe manufacturer not having months and months of savings to maintain their family needs, lifestyle or ability to pay bills...

Heard on Sirius this morning that LA schools are remaining open during their strike because parents of the students can't afford to miss work to take care of them.

Absolutely. Most of our system is bogged down by problem kids. A few in a classroom take attention away from learning. Drop the dead weight, focus on the ones who want to be there and watch the improvement

They gone.

Texas is waiting with open arms and a better state infrastructure.

Louisiana politicians and others once again show their stupidity. Exxon don’t give a shite about public opinions they’re in it for $$$$$

Explain.

Why should anyone feel sorry for someone who is facing hardship in their job and ultimately, their home life. Even those who have no say so and are at the mercy of a few decision makers...

Its about money, not education. The current policy just wants butts in the seat

I taught at an alternative school and for every kid d learning, there were two there just to satisfy their PO or parent and tried their best not to learn and to disrupt as much as possible.

Graduating kids who can barely read, can't do math isn't doing them favors. They don't need to be mainstreamed for sure.

The burden needs to be put back on the parents, not the system.
