They probably won't ever close the entire operation, but as we move more and more towards automation they absolutely could close large parts down to consolidate with other plants in more favorable locations.
I doubt they'll even close most of it anytime soon. The problem is that they'll have zero interest in reinvesting or expanding operations. People like TBR have zero interest in anything other than scoring immediate points against "evil corporations". They have no vision for the future other than getting everyone on the government dole so they can consolidate power.

Sweet Jesus! EBR already gets nearly 10K per student and does crap with it.
The liberal belief that throwing more money will solve it. The problems with the schools start in the students’ homes but it’d be racist to acknowledge that.

Oh, of course. Then the lawsuits begin (which is another one of their fetishes)

Which comes from the lack of education, unfortunately. We’re a full generation out full of stupid people and people that didn’t/don’t care about education. How we could get the turned around is beyond me. But if it isn’t changed, things are only going to get worse.

In he US, the money we spent on primary and secondary education is unreal. More money isn't the answer.
Per pupil spending
And this doesn't include Capital budgets.

I get it, those in power now, trying to make themselves look good, and know it wont be there mess when Exxon leaves and BR is in even shittier shape, because of the job losses.
The Democrat plan, look good now, then be gone from office when the shite hits the fan. Then blame those in power!

ouisiana spends the MOST of any state in the South per student at $11k. BR is even worse at $13k, which is $4k MORE per student than Texas. It isn't a tax problem that keeps education in the gutters. Where is the money going?
Baton Rouge Education Report Card
State by State Avg. Spending Per Student
EBR spends $10,755.00 per student
Zachary $9,780.00 per student
Katy ISD $8,596.00 per student.
Cy_Fair spends $7,967.00 per student.
Starting teacher salary in Cy-Fair ISD is $53K with BS. EBR $44,500.00 with a BA degree,$48,400.00 with a PHD.
Cy-Fair and Katy schools are leaps and bounds better without question.

Exxon donates millions of dollars to various organizations in the area. It'll be interesting to see what transpires after they're denied multiple exemptions.
It will be interesting to see if they stop donating...

nearly $1.4 million to United Way, almost $1 million to non-profits and schools and about $1.1 million to Louisiana colleges and universities
Does anyone know how much they invested into Lee Magnet High's STEM Program?

He is the worst governor for this state when it comes to economic development. That said I actually like his economic development team.
Edwin was a great salesman and probably the best economic developer in the history of the state, granted that was different times.
Blanco wasn't bad either
Buddy Romer in his ivory tower was bad
Jindal just threw tons of money at every situation but he was way too busy with his "presidential campaign" the last 4 years.
The problem with economic development is local in Louisiana by in large. You have some mayor that has no clue what a rail spur even is, but hears from 10 people about how it is bad and then kills the deal. Or the ITEP situation. There are so many situations where local governments have ruined jobs for people in Louisiana it is crazy.
EPA said this project wouldn't harm the local ecology but jim down the road is afraid of the impact on his petunias so we are going to stop it.

Everyone wants that magic fix to the education problem.
The only way to fix it is to fix the situation these children have at home and fix the cultural situation many individuals face where they are shamed for being smart or making good grades.
If you can figure out how to make those two concepts a reality, the school system will flourish.

I agree and i agree that it is tough to do so, but lets not act like their aren't tons of case studies around the country of well performing school districts in bad areas.

I would bet most are magnet schools or charter schools that get the more intelligent and stable student.

It's the elephant in the room that no one will acknowledge and it sums up most problems we see today. It's always someone else's fault.
The bigotry of low expectations is extremely real. "No, your kid is in 8th grade and can't read because of Exxon not giving us money and not because you don't know where he is at 11:00 PM on a Tuesday."

Exactly. It's amazing what happens when the few students that want to learn are isolated from the others that are basically sent there because it's a free daycare service. Of course, groups like TBR hate charter schools as well.

Start moving problem students out of the system. You'll see improvement across the board.
