Where I was in GA, in 95, a pack of smokes was $2 even. If you bought Basics, it was $1.25 if you bought a whole carton.
$0.99 smokes would have to be earlier than 95. Or maybe you lived in tobacco country?

My grandfather remembers his dad riding a horse to work and the day that he was late and came home with their first vehicle.
My grandfather spent his early years on a ranch having to ride a buckboard for the long trip into town. He retired from the oilfield with a convertible that you could hear coming down the street.
I always wonder how exciting it must have been to get the first car, and what a difference it made in their daily lives.

The price of cigarettes varies wildly by state because of taxes. I remember buying Marlboro's for $1.25 in 95 and less than a buck for generics.

Someone downvoted you but I believe you. My friend's grandfather was the first person in Charleston's Mt Pleasant suburb to own an automobile and there's even a street named after him there.
It really wasn't that long ago that cars became prevalent.
It has been less than a hundred years since cars became prevalent.

I road a horse down to the feed store and paid a quarter for a bottle coke.
Left the house on Sunday after lunch and didn’t come back until the sun started going down.

I went to a gas station last week that actually doesn't have a credit card machine on the pump, you actually pump your gas, then go inside and pay. I haven't seen one of those in decades
Was weird as shite when I was driving in Ireland a couple weeks ago. None of the gas stations had pay at the pump. You just pulled up, pumped fuel, then went inside to pay. Every single one, even really big and new gas stations did this. I can’t believe they don’t have a super high amount of theft due to how much fuel costs over there. Reminded me of when I was really young before pumps took credit cards.

literally remember my grandmother telling me her phone number was the same for `40 yrs
My mom still has the original 2 numbers in our childhood home built in '71. Until about 20 years ago, you could still simply dial the last digit of the prefix and last 4 digits of the number in our town to reach anyone. Ex: 3-6212, etc

Yep.. the one I saw was on the outskirts of Frankfurt Germany. Super fancy gas station. No prepay. You pump and then go pay. But you have to pay 50 cents to use the bathroom!

swear to god I remember doing that.
Let's talk about people being able to "put it on my bill."
like at the auto parts store, Otasco, or Service Merchandise...
there was a pink or yellow carbon copy, then you'd go back up there and pay your bill on the 1st or 15th.

Meanwhile, I do remember not that long ago that you had to burn music onto a CD to listen to it. Just look at all the ways we can play that stuff now. It really wasn't that long ago....

It wasn’t that long ago that I was dominating some 8 cds for 1cent music clubs. I bet I joined 20 times and never paid anything ever.
