Garcia is one of about 700 passengers on the first cruise in decades to travel from the United States to Cuba. The Adonia, a ship on Carnival Corp.'s Fathom cruise line, docked Monday in Havana.

The ship's arrival marks the first stop on a historic, seven-day voyage that signals closer ties between the United States and its communist-run neighbor.

As the ship arrived, crowds onboard started chanting, "Cuba! Cuba! Cuba!" For Garcia, the city manager of North Miami Beach, Florida, pulling into the port was an emotional experience.

"I'm blessed to be here today," she said, "and hoping for a better tomorrow for Cuba and my Cuban brothers and sisters."

I was in Cuba for 9 days in December. I loved it. I did a look up and prices on the cruise aren't bad. I'm waiting for the Cubakats to start runs out of the Keys to visit again. It's a communist country, yes, but I don't give a rat's arse. I got to see my sister, who I haven't seen in over 30 years.

If you get the chance to visit Cuba before it is "Americanized"' don't hesitate.

Gotta admit, I added Cuba to my bucket list once I heard the travel restrictions were being lifted.

Do you think the Americans will do anything that the Europeans haven't already? I've fished the island twice, and there was no shortage of gringos. I just don't see the Cuban Government doing anything different to accommodate more tourists now just because Americans can travel to the island more freely.

Glad you got to see your family. I've always been infatuated by Cuba and would love to visit there.

Mac, yes it was awesome. I was born in the US. My sisters and brother were born in Cuba as was my mom. I have dual citizenship, not recognized in the US, but recognized in Cuba. If you get the chance to visit, don't hesitate for a second.

Better hurry. Only a matter of time until it becomes like every other island.

Why do you guys hate carnival and cruse ships in general so much? I was on one last summer and it was awesome.

To each their own, but you're not going to see me setting foot on a cruise anytime soon, especially Carnival.

"But there's food 24 hours a day!"

Yeah, and if stuffing my body with an endless supply of Golden Corral-quality food for a week, I would spend the entire cruise on the toilet anyway.

Won't do anything different to encourage and protect a much larger revenue stream?

Have they opened a Senior Frogs yet?

Wouldn't mind taking a trip to the island.
