Citizen/Seiko/Tissot are all nice quartz watches that will do the job and last a while.
I'm not a fan of the lower priced "nice" watches like Hamilton/Movado/etc.
If it were me, my choice under 500 bucks would always be an Apple Watch, but I realize that may not be what you're after.

I wear the SKX009 almost daily. Looks great on the original metal band or natos during the summer. Should be able to pick it up well under that price range.

Seiko SKX007 and 009 are still the goto inexpensive mechanical dive watches though they are discontinued and getting harder to find as cheap as they used to be but still available in your price range.
