Isn’t all this tech supposed to make it so people don’t have to work as much?

What has been the selling point of all this automation, app, and tech bullshite over the years? Has there even been a selling point?

And now folks are uncomfortable that less people are working 40 hours a week?

If that isn’t the point of 17 different passwords on 45 different apps then why are we doing this?

Do you ever feel like you are serving all this tech, instead of it serving you?

It’s not to decrease the amount of time you work, it’s to increase the amount of productivity you generate/achieve in the 40 hours you work.

Americans are required to spend too much time at work. Production would be higher across the board if everyone worked 25 hours per week instead of 40.

Just think how long it took before Microsoft Office, any CAD program, etc were available.

The point of automation was to limit the payroll, not the work for the employee. Automation allows for less resources to be equally or more productive. "It will make your job easier" was just a ploy.

I don’t buy that argument.

How does one measure the ‘less time it took’? Plus, those people weren’t spinning their wheels on endless software upgrades and security protocols.

McFlurry machine

I haven’t been to a McDonald’s with a working McFlurry machine in probably 15-20 years.

frick technology. I work at a company that is farrrrrr to complicated. Two systems to do the same thing. A different process fir everything. If a mistake is made you can’t just simply adjust you have to start over. I’ve worked on other point of sale systems that were much more user friendly.

That’s wasted life. How much time are you spending with your loved ones instead of making someone else filthy rich at 60+ hours a week?

.

You have it backwards, I worked from the 70s onward, and have seen both sides of the technology revolution. In the 69s, 79s the 40 hour work week was the norm. People worked their day, and went home to their family. Most people did not bring work home. When the work day was over, your time with your family was all yours. Today there is no real dividing line between the workday and home life. You are available by cell phone anywhere you are. I hear people on the beach doing business, while watching their kids play, instead of playing with their kids. We respond to work related texts during dinner, answer email after dinner, check email just one last time before going to sleep. Technology has allowed our work to invade every hour of our lives, and instead of making what we did easier, just created a every increasing number of things that have to be fone.

Now the companies can run lean and won't backfill until absolutely necessary. That way we can all do 3 people's jobs and they can leave job postings up that they have no intention of filling.
