I see this as a day where your Rosie O'Donnell types withdraw from society for a day.

It better.

At the very least, pay should be docked for time off.

I wonder if the taxpayers of Alexandria will be getting a refund for the money not used to pay teachers today

If they had leave available, took it, and you fired them on pink slip day, Friday might become lawsuit day.

Key word is if they took it. No call no show is grounds for termination in most company handbooks.

What if they scheduled a personal day in advance?

I told mine to take it off if they want. Don't ask me for a draw on future commissions if they don't make any money this month.

Depends on how the company's policy states that available leave can be used. If the company policy on leave states that leave days must be requested and approved ahead of time except in cases of illness or family emergency, then no-showing today to go protest is acceptable grounds for termination.

You can take off tomorrow.

I would get so much pleasure out of terminating someone for skipping out to celebrate their victim mentality. Unfortunately, everyone in my office is fairly conservative, so they won't be participating.
