Is This the Year ACoE is Forced to Open Morganza?

With MS suing due to ORCS devastating their fishing industry and 544% normal rainfall in the TN valley and high snow levels in the lower Ohio does this force ACoE’s hand to open the Morganza beyond a few gates?
If ACoE is extremely resistant as in years past this would give credence to the fact the believe the entire structure will fail if opened. Huge black eye the ACoE will avoid and deflect on at all costs.

I hope so, They really don't understand the deer mortality rate that they are hurting in certain areas! Have heard that several hunting clubs along the Miss River when the river goes up all these deer are closer together on smaller islands of land that the transmission of CWD and other disease is REAL!
Open Morganza and let it rip! Roll em boys!

USACE will follow its congressional mandate unless directed to do so otherwise either by POTUS or Congress.
The only way I see that changing without either of those is by court order, but that won't happen unless it works its way through litigation which will take a long time.
Also, Bonnet Carre is the issue, not ORCS. If they shut down ORCS you would see national economic reprecussions immediately.

Used to hunt Old Miss club. High water, one would see a couple hundred deer at a time. The club would shut down the season once the river would hit 35' in BR.

A judge recently ruled that a lawsuit Mississippi filed against the ACOE can go forward. This lawsuit is specific to the ORCS stating that it has caused silting issues and water to back up into Mississippi and flood large areas resulting in loss income.
If I’m not mistaken Missouri did the same in the past and won resulting in land owners receiving around $4300 an acre in damages for their affected land.
If the feds have to pay billions, it might get attention in DC and they will look at the congressional mandates in place on requirements for opening it but that’s probably a few years down the road

I don't think you know how the ORCS works. It's not like a bath tub where the water is just going to go away in a day. Plus the South MS delta is going to flood again along the Yazoo with back water and opening the Morganza won't help with that

MO Flood Damages Suit
Looks like the MO suit was due to USACE changing focus from flood control to endangered species and wildlife protection. (which supposedly caused the flooding)
So what's all this rain have to say? I think these lawsuits are bullshite, typical though, blame someone else but I built/bought investment property, etc. in a known flood zone.

First I’ve heard of this.... change the split based in flow rate?

Nope

I hope not. We have a hunting camp that sits basically on the Atchafalaya River in Butte LaRose, high and dry. The deer hunting is plentiful and the whole hunting scene there is beautiful. That area could get flooded if they full on open the gates

Morganza protects BR and Bonnie Carre protects New Orleans.
That is over simplified
ACoE opens the gates at either based on river lever and flow at BR and NO respectively.
Opening Morganza doesn’t have near as much effect on NO as the BC opening dose
