Is There Away To Take The Bar Exam Without Going To Law School?

Is there any loopholes to make this happen?
If I want to teach myself instead of paying to go to law school, why can't take the bar?

I believe you can in California. In SC it's required.

You'll never get a seersucker suit that fits without going to law school. Your options are to move to California or Maryland and stay there permanently because those are the only two states where you can take the bar without law school, and no other state will accept it... Or there's always the Jerry Gallo approach from "My Cousin Vinny."

You can in Cali but I believe you have to clerk under a practicing attorney before you can sit for the exam.

The rules may have changed, but I had a case about 20 years ago with a lawyer here in Virginia who "read the law". It is a long process where a potential candidate is mentored by a practicing lawyer for a number of years, after which the lawyer certifies to the Board of Bar Examiners that the candidate is qualified to sit for the exam.
A candidate who has read the law and then passed the bar exam would still have to appear before the Character and Fitness Committee. That Committee has the final say as to whether the candidate meets its criteria to be sworn in as a member of the Bar.
