The suburbs there are as nice as anywhere else. There is a ton of money in north Oakland County, Grosse Pointe on the east side, and the western suburbs.
Midtown seems to be booming and downtown is getting a lot better. Little Caesars Arena is helping to bridge the gap between those two areas, which used to be like hell on earth.

My nephew has a few rent houses there paid like 25k for each would easily fetch 200k plus here in Louisiana. He's set up through a broker that collects rent, repairs etc. he hasn't actually been to any of them in years. He says it's too dangerous

I got a friend that is a hippie vegan.
He bought an abandoned former neighborhood and is trying to do organic gardening.
He has a buddy that bought a building that was a former car factory. They guy lives in it and restores old cars.

You are going to get some great answers here...from a bunch of people who have spent a combined seven minutes in the city or still think it is 2007.
There are countless things to do in Detroit...seek a better outlet for information.

Do you work for a Drug Cartel? Why the hell would you have to go to Detroit for work?

Are you suggesting that the only industry in the Detroit area is illegal drugs?

We lived in Birmingham, Mi a Detroit suburb for four years. Nicest town we have lived in. Had it's own public schools which made them essentially private quality. Kids walked to school... Every neighbor of ours was associated with the auto industry. From attorneys , accountants, to suppliers... those executives don't live in Detroit.
