Baggage claim is the last place I bond with anyone at the airport. For me, that moment is devoted to steely eyed focus on spotting my bag and getting the hell out of there.

It never fails. There's always one guy that picks up 50% of the bags on the belt to see if it's his.

I got the only lime green hard side on 97% of flts if I am forced to check, I just wait on that bad boy. Can see it from the car rental line

I have a brown Samsonite suitcase from the 60s so I've never had an issue with someone mistaking my bag for theirs. It does get "randomly checked" 100% of the time though.
