I had a top guy in FEMA do my resumé but still have a hard time getting bites unless i wanna do Border patrol or customs. Border patrol, with OT can start around 65-80 a year though. But they are correct saying most of these jobs already been filled but theyre obligated to announce it. Like the interplanetary protection officer aka men in black job. Only one in existance is at NASA and she starts around 200k

They have a list of words they look for on resume. Also, you need to be very descriptive of prior experience.

There is a very specific way you have to taylor your submitted info. Basically, use all the language the job description has in all your documents. It flags you for the 2nd round.

Marry your resume to the job description. Don't copy and paste, but just use key words from the job description.

Figured as much. Just for show.

We have too many federal employees as it is. In the next 3 fiscal years we need to cut the federal workforce down by 33%

I've heard of people adding a bunch of blank pages and then essentially posting the job description at the end of their resume. The online filters scan the resume and it is put to the top because it matches the listing exactly.

I work for a big fortune 500, many times it works like that for us too, the job posting is just to satisfy HR.

I'm a contractor for DON...you know the saying..."it's not what you know but who you know"?...it's true.
Everybody in here saying that they already have a person in mind for the position is entirely 100% accurate.
I could go government at anytime but choose not to...if you have any kind of motivation and drive and desire to advance and produce quality work...don't go govt...Trump is doing the correct thing with govt employees....what a bunch of retarded, lazy, useless people who are basically raping the American people everyday...
YES there are some good ones...but as a whole...most are not...they love the fact that they will essentially not be fired unless they murder someone and that they get pay raises every year or whatever despite their productivity.
wanna support the military or the GOV?...go contractor.

It is required by law to publicly post government job openings. That said, most job recipients have already been selected by the position's supervisor. HR usually goes with supervisor's recommendation.
The secret: Know ahead of time the job will be opening up and make yourself familiar with the supervisor of that position. Much of the time, though, the position will go in-house to someone they are already familiar with.
