I'm not aware of any state where you wouldn't be guilty.

It sucks, but the statutes don't allow leeway on this. If they are underage, they are underage, no matter what misrepresentations are made.

As always, prosecutors have discretion on how hard to hit you with it.

The law does not allow an "offender" to rely on this.

Yeah, because my friends check the ID with no more than a glance.

Seriously, I was a difficult one in the group and if I wanted to stay out, you couldn't argue with me after I had been drinking. It's not my friend's responsibility to keep up with me.

She hasn't even been missing 12 hours. I'm really hoping her cell phone is lost or dead and she will show up soon.

Small update:

The friends didn't leave her behind, they just lost eye contact with her. In Redeye, that is pretty much losing her.

What is worrying the family is that her friends said she was not drunk when they lost her. She is not known to have been active, so going home with a guy is very unusual behavior for her.

Pretty sure 17 is legal in LA but she is going to have a tough time explaining this to the Mt Carmel administration on Monday.

I don't know many 17 year olds in bars that aren't "active."

*Not trying to be a dick.

Here's hoping she just shacked up and that's that. Nothing wrong with doing that.

I have a hard time believing this.

Totally normal if someone was drinking. I'd be shocked if she wasn't. In fact, if she wasn't drinking, her parents should win an award. Pretty nuts if she didn't drink/get drunk at that shite show bar.

She's 17. She's still a kid. Kids aren't responsible. That's why they aren't allowed in bars.

you committed a crime

that crime may not be prosecuted due to the situation

i've heard bars can be sued for this, too

agree.
you can be a good friend and say all the shite in the world like lets go, we're leaving, come on, etc. but if your friend is an idiot and wants to stay that's on them. I'm not your mom/dad, if I'm pleading for you to come and you don't come, I'm not gonna pick you up and drag you out.
