Is there a car problem that causes steering wheel slack after driving awhile?

It feels like it's hard to keep my wheels straight after I've been driving a few hours. It only happens on long trips

My dad said he didn't think so. Pretty sure I'm not imagining it

When you're driving the same woman around year after year, it's hard to keep stiff steering.

could be ball joints, control arms, suspension, power steering fluid or system...

also could just need a balance and alignment. tricky to diagnose without knowing anymore

You're running a little low on steering oil. It's that white translucent tank under your hood. Just pour some regular motor oil in there to top it off and you'll be good to go

Seriously though. You probably need new tires and an alignment

Do you feel any vibration in the steering wheel?

How many miles are on the car?

If over 100k, I'd look at your wheel bearings.

Could also be a tire alignment issue

I do need to go get an alignment

It kinda feels like driving a really old car where the steering wheel easily moves an inch or two either way without moving the tires

Steering wheel slack or pulling? If it's pulling then you should check the air pressure in four tires.

And change the valve cover gaskets!

Could be a loose gas cap.

Check your gas cap.
