The Lafayette City Council is scheduled to address today, whether the Alfred Mouton statue should be removed? Are statues inherently racist or have racist connotations because they are Confederate?

Isn't that statue located in a cemetery? Doesn't that mark Mouton's grave?

The statue is at the intersection of Jefferson St & Lee Ave downtown.

Guarantee that 99.99% of the people upset about it had no idea who the statue was a few months ago.

He was killed a Mansfield, there is a small monument to him there.

Buried in Laf, memorial marker on his grave

Statue- downtown Laf

_ Mouton is a recipient of the Confederate Medal of Honor ( not o be confused with the Cross of Honor)

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Someone should study his life, the context surrounding the erection of the statute, and then come to a logical conclusion. Then, consider whether tearing down the statue is something that needs to be done.

I know it's a lot to ask this of people in today's society, but maybe it can be done.
