In all honesty though, movies have skewed peoples views of a bank robbery. Unless you hit the Federal Reserve Vault, there is not nearly the amount of cash on hand in a bank that you'd otherwise believe. You'd have enough to get out of country and maybe get a decent home, but you wont be retiring off of one bank heist. There aren't walk in vaults where the cash is stacked in pallets in the middle of the vault. Nor are their stacks and stacks of gold bars.

It's a high risk/high reward attempt but it's certainly not dumb. If you can pull it off, you're in good shape financially speaking.

Why don’t the real pros (think DeNiro in Heat) go after the banks in small towns with less sophisticated security? I interned for an auditing firm a long time ago and we did work for this bank near the Haynesville shale that was holding serious cash due to all the oil money in the area.
