You call it luck, because you refuse to acknowledge that which my family has is due to anything we’ve done. That whole thought process is rooted in jealousy.

Show me some scientific proof of this “luck”.

Got any leprechauns while you’re at it?

So was it luck when instead of staying home on the weekend, my dad decided to work and sleep at the business to ensure that the job for Monday was done properly?

Scientific American
quote:

Consider some recent findings:

About half of the differences in income across people worldwide is explained by their country of residence and by the income distribution within that country,

Scientific impact is randomly distributed, with high productivity alone having a limited effect on the likelihood of high-impact work in a scientific career,

The chance of becoming a CEO is influenced by your name or month of birth,

The number of CEOs born in June and July is much smaller than the number of CEOs born in other months,

Those with last names earlier in the alphabet are more likely to receive tenure at top departments,

The display of middle initials increases positive evaluations of people's intellectual capacities and achievements,

People with easy to pronounce names are judged more positively than those with difficult-to-pronounce names,

Females with masculine sounding names are more successful in legal careers.

All of the items above are things that individuals have no control over but lead to their success. That's the basis of my definition of luck. Luck is things or actions that happen in your life that you have no control over.

quote:

However, talent was definitely not sufficient because the most talented individuals were rarely the most successful. In general, mediocre-but-lucky people were much more successful than more-talented-but-unlucky individuals. The most successful agents tended to be those who were only slightly above average in talent but with a lot of luck in their lives.

Nail salons? How is that really different from hair salons?

Dude you are being intentionally obtuse and refusing to engage with what we are saying.

You are building up strawmen to tear down.

Absolutely not.

If so, white collar crime wouldn't exist.

People who have been handed everything their entire life have no clue what it's like to scratch your way to success. It's simple projection and a belief in magic over determination.

Talent is absolutely meaningless if you don’t have good work ethic.

Again, you are being willfully and intentionally obtuse. You are a bad faith actor in this discussion.

All those things CAUSE poverty. Know what kills poverty? Avoiding these things and working consistently and living within your means. Unfortunately, we'd rather just give people a check and let them live recklessly than teach them how to get their life in order.

Now you are trying to gaslight us bro. You are bringing up anecdotal evidence about your dad sleeping at the office and "having a good work ethic" which has nothing to do with the concept of luck.

I am not discounting hard work or making your own breaks. You seem incapable of acknowledging that somewhere along the way you got some lucky break. That's is all I am pointing out.

You quoted the point that the most talented people often don’t have the best jobs.

So I stated that talent is meaningless without good work ethic.

I’m proving the fact that “luck” had nothing to do with it. It’s all determined by the decisions you make.

You have proved nothing but that you are a moron.

I quoted that the most talented people don't achieve the highest level of success because of luck.

The whole point of my comments that you are too dense to acknowledge.
