Is our border crisis contributing to the spread of Covid-19 in the US?

Is anyone concerned that these illegal aliens are potentially increasing the risk of spreading Covid in the US?

Border crisis shows no sign of slowing as migrants pour in; former officials slam ‘national embarrassment'

The crisis at the southern border is showing no sign of slowing, with a continued surge of migrants pouring into the U.S. -- with one former Homeland Security official calling the situation a "national embarrassment."

There were more than 188,000 migrant encounters at the southern border in June, and that number looks set to rise significantly in July. The Associated Press is reporting that preliminary data show more than 210,000 migrant encounters in July. For comparison, there were just over 40,000 apprehensions in July 2020, and 81,000 in July 2019.

Should the numbers even be close to the 210,000 figure, it would be yet another significant blow to the Biden administration’s credibility in handling the crisis at the southern border -- which Republicans, former Trump officials and even some Democrats have blamed on the Biden administration’s immigration policies.

The administration ended Trump-era policies that kept migrants out of the country, like the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), which kept migrants in Mexico until their hearings were completed. It also ended the asylum cooperative agreements with Northern Triangle countries and ended border wall construction.

On interior enforcement, it has narrowed enforcement priorities for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and has called for amnesty for illegal immigrants already in the country.

The Biden administration has also not been applying Title 42 public health protections, which allow for the rapid expulsion of migrants, to unaccompanied children and only some migrant families. In June, the U.S. saw a 25% increase in apprehensions of migrant family units. Out of 55,000 units apprehended, fewer than 9,000 were expelled via Title 42.

quote:

Fox News has reported how a bus station in McAllen, Texas, is being overrun with migrants who are dropped off by the busload and given bus tickets to wherever they want to go in the U.S. as the Biden administration’s policy has focused on quickly processing and releasing migrants into the interior.

quote:

Many of those being processed into the U.S. are not being given notices to appear in court, being instead given notices only to report to their local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices when they arrive at their destinations. And with numbers rising, Republicans and former officials have accused the Biden administration of breaking the immigration system entirely.

I imagine that these cages that are being used to hold the underaged migrants are forcing everyone in closer quarters and increasing the spread before they are bussed to various cities across the country.

NOPE!

The Covid panic is a excuse to ignore the border crisis.

The practice of sending them to cities all over the place isn't helping.

Any moron who tells me to get vaccinated, but doesn't acknowledge the border crisis, can go frick themselves.

Oddly enough this seems to be the case every time.

With the amount of spread in the US I don't think it's making a huge difference but it's definitely pretty logically inconsistent to allow what's going on down there.

You've got it backwards. Why are all these perfectly healthy people flocking to a place as deadly and dangerous as the USA?

No, we need these vibrant, enriching covid-carriers and their bought and paid for demonrat votes at all costs.
We must celebrate their national pastime of driving drunk and un insured. Small price to pay for sweet, vibrant dieversity, our strength!

I'm not concerned, no

I am concerned about the blatant hypocrisy, but what else is new

Florida beaches were death camps because of COVID but terrorist riots that jammed thousands into the streets were fine

Not at all. I mean, we all know the vaccines and Covid tests are readily available and efficiently distributed in poor, third world Latin American countries.

No chance they aren’t vaccinated and Covid free

How many will you personally house, feed, clothe and bring to get vaccinated?

Are they vaccinating the migrants before they send them to bus stations in Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Dallas, etc.?

If only the last guy had built a wall like he promised instead of just putting the wall fundraising funds in his pockets.
