As far as I’m concerned, if you don’t find Monty Python funny, it’s a “you” problem.

It’s a mix of highbrow and lowbrow.

Example - The Summarizing Proust Competition

It’s a sketch about a game show of trying to summarize a masterwork book series punctuated by masturbation jokes and awarding first prize to the girl with the biggest tits.

It hits both extremes in one sketch.

Monty Python is ok.

I find Mel Brooks much more entertaining and funnier as far as old comedies go.

YMMV.

Im a huge Brooks fan but certain works are more appreciated depending on how familiar you are with what is being sent up.

If you haven’t watched about 20 Hitchcock films, there are limits to how many of the jokes and references you get in High Anxiety, for example.

Too bad they only made something like 12 episodes of that gem.

Sadly, John Cleese and Connie Booth fought like cats and dogs off screen and ruined the continuation of the show. After divorce and the dust settled, they both realized it was genius, but they could never agree on how to get it going again.

Brits are mystified by why Americans like Benny Hill so much.

I think he just needs to make an exit because this isn’t his idiom.

Can’t the rest of us have just a little bit of peril, though?

Sadly, Manuel passed about 5 years ago. Can't imagine a reboot without him involved.

I’ll always be blown away by how popular that movie/show is. They made us watch the movie in high school and it was beyond the highest levels of cringe I could imagine. It was deeply uncomfortable and upsetting.

That “find the fish” scene made my skin crawl.

I didn’t claim he was.

But he seems to have more general appeal in the US than a lot of other British comedy, probably due to being more broad (visual comedy with Yakety Sax played over it) which means he is more accessible.

Different generations find different types of humor funny. It changes over time.
