I mean obviously the cops are running the drug trade, but did they murder all those people too?
I always heard it was ducked up little backwards town but holy shite, it’s incredible if half the shite they imply are true. Bizarre feds never got involved in all this

I think the FBI was involved in the serial killer investigation years ago.

There was never a serial Killer, not sure wtf is going on but cops are corrupt as hell. This reminds me tons of True Detective.

Are you going to believe the low IQ dipshits in that "documentary" that's made to draw ratings?

Jeff Davis Parish was about as corrupt as they come when Ricky Edwards was sheriff.

I read that book a few years back. I believe it is a combination of dumb cops and corruption.

So the answer is “yes” and you are in on it.
Thanks, police have been notified.

One judge judicial district. 10 years ago or so, the judge was removed from the bench because of some controversy with his secretary’s custody case.

When the BRPD story gets told, it will rival anything out of New Orleans.

For a long time, Jennings was the spot on I10 b/w Houston and Florida where drugs were stored for transport logistics.
It created issues related to drugs that a small town really didn't have the opportunity to deal with, so a toxic culture emerged.
Also, JDP is your typical "good ole boys" type of area. It has a really bad past of abusing women as part of the culture.
These things have cleaned up but only just recently.

Wendell Miller. He's still practicing and ran for DA a few years ago.
Short summary: he had an affair with his secretary (who was married). She got pregnant with his child. She and her husband divorce and Miller presided over the custody case that involved his own biological child.

Any specific allegations? Because people I know that know him wouldn’t agree. Maybe they were just blind to it.

I don't know anything about Ricky Edwards specifically, but the corruption issues likely deal with people you're not exactly friends with, so there would never be a reason for you to suspect anything. Unless you get involved in politics (and tried to upset the natural order of kingmaking in the parish), you likely would not be associated with anyone who was a part of corruption. That was typically done with criminals, so you'd only really know (or know people who were part of it) if you ran with criminals.

My question is whether people believe Edwards himself was overtly corrupt or whether he just wasn’t able to stop it.

Jennings and Welsh are both shitholes and full of drugs. Access to the interstate and being between Laffy and LC is a perfect area for runners to offload their shipments from Houston without the eyes of a larger police force. No way the police in either of those towns could stop it if they wanted to. Of course, the theory has long been they don't want to stop it because they are in on it.

I don't know anything about Ricky Edwards specifically so I can't comment. I was just speaking generally.

Small town in Louisiana, almost assuredly the answer to this is yes

I think that's just a culture that ultimately develops when drug money is flowing, especially once you try to combat drugs with stops/arrests to get CIs and civil forfeiture. It's not specific to Jennings, but Jennings already had a toxic culture and wasn't prepared for how the 2 combined would spiral.

quote:Talking about Miller, right? If so, it was a LOT more than just that. I made bank for awhile cranking out motions to disqualify His Honor, though most of those were based on his professional misconduct, prior rulings, etc.

One client had a PI trail him--told me privately there were some pretty significant transgressions discovered. Don't know if those ever came to light--I don't even recall all the specifics all these years later.
