That you can get away with drinking and driving? If all you’re doing is getting a buzz you’re safe. I’ve always heard that. It may be a thing of the past.

It's actually the official region sport.

MS has no open container. You can legally drink and drive. As long as you are not over the limit at the moment of being tested following being pulled over, you are good.

Deltaland says you can get away with a whole lot more than that down there.

Yes. It’s a cultural thing here to “mix a drink for the drive” if you’re going out to eat or something.

Largely because of the back roads here. You can get almost anywhere without hardly touching a highway

You are correct but they leave it up to the municipalities to decide for the cities. If you in the county as long as you’re under the limit, you can have an open container.

Not so sure about that, watched a dude smoke a lightpole after he had been drinking all day in Biloxi.

Same for the Arkansas side. Stay on the backroads, turn rows or levee and you’re good. That came straight from the sheriff’s mouth.

Back in the day, we could go from Greenville to Chevy’s and barely hit blacktop. Good times and I am just glad to have made it through.

True story: I got a dui in college and had to take that class so it would be off my record. Cop that was doing the class asked me and a friend of mine from Greenwood what the hell was wrong with delta folk. We asked him what does he mean? He went to talk about a statewide study they did where they took volunteers from different regions of the state and gave them alcohol until they blew a .15 and had them drive a course and recorded their mistakes.

He said every single person from the delta didn’t make a single error on the course

VFW road off raceway to black bayou rd then down old 61 turn onto Kennedy flat go to Tribbett and get on bland rd all the way to Kinloch rd.

Or head south from Tribbett and go to the Bourbon Mall (RIP)

I don’t doubt that at all. It was almost a sure thing that delta kids at Ole Miss or State would get a DUI in their first semester. We were all just so used to being the designated drunk driver. Thankfully our kids use Uber these days.

I remember going to school in Cleveland keeping a cooler of beer on my floorboard. Cops never cared the couple times I was pulled over. One did steal my gun though.

My sister on the gulf coast often has a beer in her lap.

Turn rows were for when you needed to stop and turn the headlights off to either roll a J or do a bump

Yes, that’s one of the benefits the locals have had ever since Robert Johnson’s transaction with Beelzebub at the crossroads.
