Hurricane Juan was a crazy storm back in late October of 1985.

[quote]How do you get caught in a hurricane?

Three weeks: There is a hurricane coming
Two weeks: The hurricane will definitely make landfall
One week: The hurricane will hit this specified area at 3:54 pm in one week
Two days: The hurricane will hit Joe Smith's backyard at 3:54 pm in two days
Day 0 3:54 pm: Okay, the hurricane is FINALLY here and in Joe Smith's backyard.

In my part the country it is different.

Day of storm: We might get a tornado.
5 minutes later: There it is....RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!

Here's how that easily happens:

Three weeks: There is a hurricane coming
• The hurricane is off the coast of Africa.
Two weeks: The hurricane will definitely make landfall
• The hurricane is barely in the Caribbean at this point.
One week: The hurricane will hit this specified area at 3:54 pm in one week
• The hurricane is MAYBE on the outer edges of the Gulf at this point.
Two days: The hurricane will hit Joe Smith's backyard at 3:54 pm in two days
• The hurricane is in the middle of the Gulf or coming off the coast of Florida at this point.

(You left this day out for some reason)
One day: The hurricane is projected to hit Mobile when you wake up. By 6pm that evening it is projected to hit the Panhandle or Slidell.

Day 0 3:54 pm: Okay, the hurricane is FINALLY here and in Joe Smith's backyard.
• Day 0 is the only day you can project with 100% certainty.

2 years ago Nola had Category 2 Zeta hit right before Halloween you idiot

Thought it hit land as a Cat 3? Either way, that one formed 4-5 days before landfall and wrecked some shite on 10/28.

I also didn't see Rita mentioned in the thread. Jumped to a Cat 5 3-4 days after forming and made landfall around 9/24 back in 2005. Took about a week to form, jump to a 5, drop to a 3, then make landfall

Like another poster said, odds are in our favor; but definitely not out of the woods

Zeta

The only hurricane I’ve ever enjoyed.
Knocked the power out for a bit, but a cool front was right behind it. Cleaning up and sleeping with cool temps and windows open was like heaven
