I just really can't get over how fricking stupid using this word in the OP is. And God bless his little heart, he even double downed when somebody called him on it.

You really screwed yourself here using immature.

I'd need more context here but yes, if this isn't a baby/family type party it's a bullshite move. If they're popping in for a quarter to see people that's fine. If they bring the giant baby bag and an entire roster of toys then you're allowed to politely kick their selfish asses out.

You could always give the couple with a 2 week old a guilt trip and ask them "Aren't you concerned exposing your newborn to all our germs so young? I thought you shouldn't bring them out in public until they are at least 6 weeks old since their immune systems haven't fully developed and they are too young for many of the vaccinations they need. With the flu season in full force, you aren't worried? I hope you at least got your flu shots this year, wonder if everyone in this room got their flu shot"

That would be the time where I'd ask someone if they're such an expert on kids, where is theirs?

Not that I agree with taking a two week old out like that, but frick unsolicited parenting advice. That's the worst part about becoming a parent. Everyone has a fricking opinion and finds it appropriate to share. Even if they're complete strangers.

I wonder how some people are able to get up, get dressed and go about their day without checking on the Internet to see if it's ok first.

Start telling dead baby jokes. One of you will be forced to leave.

Problem solved.

A young baby is pretty self contained, particularly if the mother is breast feeding. It's when they get to two years old plus that they truly become a football distraction.

You'll be fine tonight.

If you have to bring your child, bring your child.

I will say that it might make people uncomfortable if they are drinking and using foul language or being loud. They'll feel like they have to tone it down because there's a baby. But that's life, sometimes you have to act civilized.

You'll know if it annoys people because you'll stop being invited to things. Which you will. Because crying babies are the most annoying thing in this world.

Nope, but as a pediatric nurse and also infection control nurse...I am very well aware of how fragile the immune system of a newborn is. It is so fragile that if you bring a newborn to the ER with a fever.....docs start doing spinal taps and admitting your baby to the hospital for a few days to make sure they don't have something serious.

It really is the height of flu season right now. If I was a parent of a newborn that young....I would place my baby's health a priority over wanting to go to a Super Bowl party. My issue isn't bringing a baby.....it is bringing one so young.

I would bring my baby if I didn't have a sitter. Parents of babies are allowed to socialize too. Maybe those with babies will hang out together. What's you problem with that? It's not like they are going to make you change diapers.

Yep, wife and I didn't take our infants anywhere besides checkups for two months. Someone wanted to see the newborn than they would come over to our house.

First I don't think you know what immature means

Second it all depends what kind of party it is. All of our friends have kids so when we get together at someone's house it's understood we'll have kids there. We usually hire a couple sitters so we can socialize without chasing kids all night

Wow, mom and dad sound trashy. How bout you keep the newborn at home where he won't bother anyone and be exposed to all sorts of shite he's probably better off not being exposed to?

Nurse, with all due respect (and I respect your opinion based on the fact that you do this for a living) - we have managed just fine bringing our kids to events like a Super Bowl party. Even as a two week old newborn. I get that there's a possibility of spread of infection, I really do. But in all seriousness, this could be anywhere. The worst place for a baby to be is a daycare, yet a lot of parents pay upwards of $150 a week to drop our babies off while we work. Daycares are like Petri dishes of infectious disease.

Simply put, I just don't buy into the concept of sheltering a baby in fear of it catching something. Now, around a person you know has a virus - yeah absolutely. But just in general, I say get a comfortable baby seat to tote around and enjoy life.
