Is everybody (anybody) aware that an American is one win away from World Chess champion?

Fabiano Caruana would be the first American champion since Bobby Fischer in 1972. And if you're not old enough to remember that was a big deal back then.

Yeah Caruana is great but Magnus just seems to be on a different level. Like Rain Man and Fischer had a baby that was adopted by a stockfish engine.

Carlsen had what most experts considered a winning position in game 12 with black, and thus the championship... but offered a draw which Caruana wisely accepted.
