This is why people hate you.

Tiger Stadium was built in the 20s
The State Capitol and the Huey P Long(nola) bridge the 30s.
All three are still going strong with proper maintenance and updates.

Stupid.

He's a mean ole arse. I just wanted to use other government/subsidized structures to make him look more stupider.

St Louis is one beautiful structure indeed. My Messican friend(from New Braunfels) always drives down goes to mass there when he visits for LSU home games.

Charity didn't get that, and I'm pretty sure that's common knowledge.

That was his point. You were saying a building being outdated wasn’t a shock because it was built in 1939. His point was that it’s not the age, it’s the maintenance.

Urban Land Institute did a big study in an effort to steer the revitalization process.

It's here if you want to check it out. I personally think it's going to be a really good thing for downtown.

The only use for it would be to retrofit it to House all of the cities municipal agencies and the court system. But that is not politically viable because that would mean the city agencies would have to vacate their current locations. Those landlords would throw a fit politically.

Plus the Judges are already sitting on an enormous amount of unused money for their new courthouse.

This idea was thrown around a few years ago, to consolidate City Hall, Police and Fire HQ, municipal courts, civil and criminal district court, clerk of court, and some other agencies into this building. The state would spin off the building into a seperate entity, to be managed by a board consisting of reps from the largest leaseholders.

It was a pretty strong idea, but the judges said no because they had that pile of money and wanted complete control of their new home, wherever that might be.

The city doesn't really need that much new commercial office space. And I don't know if the market would support that many condos/apts at the price point needed to cover the immense renovation costs.

Even if you knocked down the annexes and just used the main building with the "wings" it may be too much.

I understand the point of historic listing and it's been great in saving many city landmarks. But this type of property, I just don't know.

This came up the other day in a pics of old pin-up gals. Did you know Mariska Hargitay was a patient there briefly before daddy had them moved to better hospital? That's not common knowledge. meanie.

Nola.com Article about Jayne Mansfield accident

quote:

The three Mansfield children who were asleep in the back seat of the car -- including a 3-year-old Mariska Hargitay, who years later would star in the TV series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" -- received what were described as minor injuries in the crash. They were initially taken to Charity Hospital by an unnamed couple, then transferred to Ochsner Foundation Hospital at the request of their father, movie muscleman Mickey Hargitay

He said the original warehouse district building was that old, not the one in use today.

I made a mistake, the current location opened in 1881, so it's 137 years old... I stand corrected...

The Original location, in the warehouse district, opened in 1852, and moved to the Prytania location 29 years later...It was actually a cow pasture when it was built..

The actual main entrance is on Foucher St... I don't know why...

I’m not even sure if Charity could have been updated properly bc of its structure. Can you do anything more than superficial renovations on a building like that?

It's not even maintenance, it's actual updating. Did you need the chief engineer of that building saying it was outdated to know it was outdated? I'm guess like me, you did not.

Two of their three ideas are based on the government services consolidation which has been talked about, and the third is a general "put tech/R&D stuff in there" which of course would be great if we could find such companies wanting to use it.

I was pretty unimpressed with the study, honestly.

Charity would need to be completely cleaned down to the concrete and reconfigured...a combined residential and retail area would make the most sense to me...

I don’t see how that thing could ever become a viable residential and retail anything.

That’s not what you said though.

You said only that it was built in 1939 so you could bash him for his “insider info.”

Forgive me for not spelling it out. Did I really need to include that because it didn't receive the same updates as other facilities it is outdated? Am I giving yall too much credit?

Well the alternative is that you think I don't think buildings can be updated. Pick one.

This is just such a weird attempt at a gotcha.
