I was at work this morning and walked in with this 20 something new hire. Start small talking with a few guys at the coffee pot and we saying what time we woke up this morning 4:00, 4:30 etc. The new guy goes man y’all dumb why do y’all get up so early we don’t have to be here until 7. 15 years ago if you woke up after 5 you were made fun of. Soft days ahead of us.

I work from home. Only an a-hole would get up hours before that.

That pissed me off when I worked in govt. if you wanted to talk to an old timer between like 11 and 2, you pretty much had to be at lunch with them or wait outside the shitter door. In some departments, most of our work days really should’ve been knocked out by 3. But the old pros knew how to stretch and look busy until they hit the lobby at 4:55 to tick off the last few minutes on the slow walk to the elevator bay. But hey, they were punctual!

What?

This is weird that I remember this since you brought it up, but I know a guy who is a grade A 1 upper. And people were talking about the time they wake up on weekends and that particular day I woke up much earlier than I normally do and I said something like "yeah today I woke up earlier than I usually do on the weekends" and the 1 upper guy was like "What you call early?".. And he said it in a sarcastic way as if he was assuming my definition of early wasn't as early as his.. It was in the 4 AM hour and I said 4:30 and I think he was expecting me to say something like 6 or 7 and he says "well, I was up by 3:30"..

Its kind of funny thinking about it, but yeah I know what you mean about people bragging about waking up early..

But then they are in bed at like 8.. Do people who stay up to 10-11 get to brag?

I wake up at 3 am to take a leak more often than I would like to. I’d rather be sleeping. You can keep the bravado. I’ll take the winks.

Gross. That’s not even getting up early. That’s getting up in the middle of the night.

People who don’t accomplish anything worth bragging about brag about what time they got started.

Yep and it's 50/50 whether I'll get back to sleep good. Sucks

This.

The dumbass boomers in my office think having your arse in a chair doing nothing from 7AM to 4/5PM is the key to success. Anyone who bucks their system and tries to work hours outside of that gets shite on, despite those people being ten time more productive and efficient.

So true. You then start thinking about work, or you get fixated on some random thing that happened 20 years ago or so and can’t stop thinking about it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to get up yet again to go check my email or whatever to get what I’m stewing over out of my mind and get back to sleep. It’s vicious.

Long time ago I was late on my first day of work. New boss calls and ask me if I was coming into work today.....I told him yes I was thinking about it ... why??? My mind was still in a sleepy fog until I looked over at my alarm clock.... OH shite

He thought it was funny and asked me when I got there about over sleeping my first day and I told him I finally got a good nights sleep finally having a full time job. I was never late for him again.

I am up at 5:00 AM drink a cup of coffee before my wife and son wake up. Its the part of my day I look forward to the most.

Help my wife get my son ready for school (he’s only 4 so that can be an adventure in the morning) Usually 15 minutes early for work or school.

It is here. Everyone seems to get up at 4:30, workout for 2 hours, then get to work at 6.

A bunch of dairy farmers. “Those cows aren’t going to milk themselves.”
