I'd give one 500 cash to give me free direct tv. The prices are outrageous. What is going to happen is all the tech savvy youngsters coming up will go around cable and direct tv and run them out of business

So..yeah.
Before cox went all digital I had a friend that taught me if you order internet and then find the line filter and remove it you'll have free cable tv.
That worked until recently.
I stopped doing that in maybe 2002, but a guy I know in Jefferson did that until the box requirement a couple of years ago.
Before that there were cards you could put in your dish receiver to get every channel.
Before that in the day of scientific Atlanta cable boxes you could get every channel.

Every cable company I've dealt with has been totally hit or miss depending on the installation contractor. Most have been bad, but I had a great one for my ATT internet this time and have had the best connection I've ever had. Hasn't dropped once in months.

It does not work that way. The ATT person runs the line and a private contractor working for att bury the line later
Only if you let it work that way. Tell the guy if he can't complete the installation then to come back when he can or with someone that can. I've always had to sign off before they left.

Yep, but still better than those damn appliance repair "technicians".

I asked if I could run the wires myself and install the dish and was told NO.
What are you waiting on, just do it. What are they going to do cut your service off? If a service guy ever does show up, do you think he will be mad that you did his job?
FWIW, I tell them to go to hell and fire them if they didn't show up to do the job.

ATT did this for a neighbor of mine. They laid that wire across my front lawn and it was there for months--maybe 3. The decision to come and bury came shortly after my son ran the lawn mower over it and cut the wire in two. Oh well!

Just an update.
Someine gave me a number to call and I was able to get the best direct tv. Tech out. He fixed all my tv issues and said "only a lazy bum won't mount a dish on the roof"
Before that, my lawnman cut the wire for the internet. Att hung up on me twice or transferred me to limbo. When I said I just needed a tech they would lose me. Thing is. Uverse, AT&T and direct are separate. Yet bundled.
So while I got a great direct tech. I just hooked the wires up myself to the box on my house and the box way in the corner of my yard. Which att left open and on it's side. Looks very rusted now and could affect others. It was only four wires and replacing the temp wire one by one was easy.
So have everything 100% right.

As far as the lines above the ground, on the fence and the temporary dish mount that's how it's done. If you don't want the dish on the roof that's what is installed until locates can be done and the buried wire crew comes by to mount the pole in the ground and bury the wire. Usually the lines are run along the fence to keep them out of the way so that people don't cut them, trip on them, etc. Typically this gets done within 2-4 weeks depending on how long the locates take and how much work the crew has scheduled already. If it's been longer than that unfortunately you probably need to call in and have them check on it.

You've described AT&T in a nutshell. Communication in the company, at least on the technician side, is comically bad.
