Mine tends not to lay people off. They just make people miserable enough to move on through their own volition.

Eh I find a lot of places are restructuring the DEI and ESG piece.

Not gutting it completely but changing the metrics they track and how important those metrics are.

We have had a ton. I’m planning on leaving soon and from what I heard, severance has been solid. May raise my hand in a couple months.

We let go of 30% late fall and will be staying that number until at least this fall.

That said, we have lost zero employees in 6 months.

Our entire long haul division was just axed. Probably 40 drivers. All of the cross dock drivers were given the option to move to Penske (they took the routes) or hit the bricks. So, yeah, I’ve seen some layoffs.

Cop. We're paying 21 year old kids $75K/year plus benefits to go to the academy. 5-year top-out with no rank is over $100K. Granted, not huge bucks, but the medical and pension are excellent. These kids nowadays think they're too special to work nights, weekends, or holidays.

We had an email come out for people to sign up up for retirement. That’s mainly for people with 30+ years. The ones that end up getting it are given 1 year of salary and they bridge their pension to the next milestone year.
They only offer that when there’s a reorg on the horizon

Nights and weekends ok... sometimes
Holidays never.
Your employer won't remember who worked on a holiday, but your kids will.

Quarreling with the Bureau of Labor Statistics?

Yes. Because like every single alphabet soup agency/bureau/etc. they’re fricking useless and a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Last major company layoff I was a part of (aside from COVID) was in November of 2019. US O&G upstream were feeling a decline in activity due to China’s economy being weaker than forecast that year.
