There is more to it than financial gain

How about when you're in ICU and only family members are allowed in?

I mean what is "marriage"? It's a union of two consenting people.

Agreed. But what is the deciding factor that separates the definition of those two words? I would argue religion and government.

The rest of what you said I can only respond by saying good for you. I agree that because you don't believe in a god, it doesn't make you devotion any less significant. However, for 90% of the world, it makes it more significant in their eyes.

Probably the smartest thing I've read on the O-T in months. Thanks Placebeaux. You wrote what I was thinking.

I don't care what they do, but they can't call it marriage. They shouldn't be able to change the definition of marriage
redefining things and controlling language is one of the left's main tactics

"pro-choice" (is there a more ambiguous phrase?) instead of "pro abortion"

"the homeless" instead of "vagrants"

and of course "gay" instead of "homosexual"

It's like playing a football game and the refs (the media) decide the other team only has to get to the 10 yd line to score a TD

I'm officially a 25%er. What queer activity can we add next? Marry a dog? Maybe a mailbox??

To me your religion should be a very private thing you take home with you not flaunt and force in public.

LOL. Even though religion is protected by the Constitution (as is free speech), religion should be completely forced from the public sphere? Yet homosexuality MUST be accepted in public in a very flaunting way? Come on.

quote:

We are in a country that has separate church and state and in the public sphere we are all equals.

"Separation of church and state" cuts both ways, but many folks who spout it are too narrow-minded to see the other side. For instance, property tax exemptions for churches are Constitutional, as are the practices and beliefs of respective churches. Those would be threatened by gay marriage.

To her family of somewhat religious people I am. To all my family and co-workers and friends they know as I routinely debate them on what I perceive as hypocrisy from them. I do it in a way that's not too condescending so as not to be that douche.

I mean if a gay couple wants to call it marriage then it's their right, no one owns that concept. If religions are offended that they are using the term marriage then they should just get over it. No need to pass judgement, didn't God say let no man pass judgement but me. Christians should focus on the good in their life and live by their values and never try to assign or put their assessment on others.

Hell I told my wife I would like for us to be called a tag team and exchange WWF tag team replica belts but it got shot down lol.

Aziz Ansari put it best:

"If you're against gay marriage you just don't like gay people and want to stick it to them. I get it. If there was a law that said people that wear affliction and order bottle service at nightclubs can't own property, I'd be like yeah frick those guys"
