I wore a black suit to the funeral of my coworkers father. The preacher was the only other guy there in a suit, everyone else had on blue jeans. Gotta love Mississippi

It's a sign of respect to the family of the deceased. Your death is not important enough to throw away 3000 years of tradition.

No, I don't think that's true.

I think that they have respect for the deceased. That's why they are there.

I think the formality of the funeral has eroded over time. Regarding dress, I think this has a lot to do with the work culture we have here in America. We are working all the time, and we dress for work. We have to leave work to attend funerals, and sometimes that means funeral guests aren't dressed formally, because they have to return to work. I think that was the catalyst that's moved things along a more casual dress for funerals. As work dress etiquette changed, it changed everything.

So people were wearing black suits 3000 years ago?

As long as you are wearing a suit, with conservative shirt/tie, it is perfectly acceptable.

I saw a family member sitting down drinking a Rockstar Energy Drink during the eulogy in the funeral home. I thought he was driving a tall boy at first

tall boy would have been more acceptable IMO

I find that particular more a bit out of step with current times, but technically no, you can't wear a light suit to a funeral

The family won't have you arrested or anything but they may ridicule your fatness

It's okay. The dress rules on funerals are not as tight as they used to be, regarding color

Geez, I'm surprised so many people feel this way. I would feel like a jackass if I even wore charcoal.

Have you been to a funeral anywhere in America lately? You could wear a Hawaiian shirt and one of those caps with the propeller on top and you'd still be more formal that 20% of your fellow mourners.

So you all have a legit black suit? I have several suits, and not one is black. Charcoal, Dark Brown, a very dark Navy, a lighter brown one. I thought black was reserved for a tux.

You're SUPPOSED to have a black suit for funerals but I guess that tradition is now shite.

I mean, I had a black one back in college. Once I started working, I bought a few different ones. Eventually the old black one made its way to the donation pile. Never got another one, and my charcoal one is so dark it pretty much passes for black.

Grey is fine if you are thinking style only, but if people are red carpeting your attire when you are there to show your respects, then they suck at life and shouldn't be there anyway.

Wear a red hat with the phrase "Make (insert first name here) alive again".

People will think that's classy. The best people. Not bad people. Some people are nasty and bad people. Thay aren't classy. Like the Mexicans. Not the good ones. Many Mexicans are great people. Just the rapists.
