I think our society has become a lot less formal. Back in the 50s and 60s guys were wearing suits as every day attire.
Back then when everyone owned multiple suits it was probably a big no-no to show up at a funeral in anything but a black suit. These days, unless you are a professional, most guys probably own one decent suit they wear to all events. Thus, it's not such an outrage to show up in a gray or brown suit.
Now if you go to a funeral of a celebrity or someone high up in a professional field and all the deceased's colleagues are there dressed in black, you may stick out.

Get a really nice red shirt. Any suit looks great with a red shirt.

Yes. That's fine. At least you are wearing one. The choices I've seen lately at funerals are horrible.

I'm gonna be so pissed off if I see anyone not wearing black at my funeral. I'll haunt those fools.

I've been to funerals where the deceased's life was celebrated and everyone wore bright colors.

It's okay. The dress rules on funerals are not as tight as they used to be, regarding color. Suit, yes. Black, not necessary anymore.
I agree.

Last funeral I attended the family asked everyone to wear white and most people did. Good thing to, it was 90 degrees plus outside and the church AC just couldn't keep up with a full house.

Untucked polo and jeans, ftw.

Sacrilege. The loss of such traditions is why this country is going to shite.
