re: Is a chiropractor actually a doctor or just a glorified massage therapist?

So you mean to tell me that all the doctors prescribing Xanax and percocets are doing in your best interest?
frick no. They want money.

Some I know make more money than doctors

I mean yea there may be a small population of doctors that get lazy and just prescribe whatever, but thats not the majority. Using that logic, lets group all chiros into the category that believe that you dont need to vaccinate children. They can just release natural antibodies by massaging in the right places. Why does someone actively try to be a chiropractor? Money, money, money, money

My first son had occasional migraines. We got into a wreck and his occasional migraines turned into daily debilitating migraines. Went to 3 docs that ultimately put him on some serious medication. Changed his personality, and he became an unpleasant person, with a little, but not much relief. In desperation we took him to a chiro. First treatment........was like turning off a switch......migraines down to one a month. I dont know if they are quacks or not, I just know they saved my son from a miserable situation.

AND....afterwards I applied to Chiro school. Had a masters in Microbiology with a lot of chemistry. They said I was short 1 organic chemistry lab. Told them I subed that lab and got credit to work with a professor trying to find a method to measure epinephrine and norepinephrine in serum ...some really technical stuff. They denied the substitution and told me I would have to take another course. I did not do that.
So, they are quacks now I think about it.

They are a proposed quick fix for stupid and lazy people. It's not a coincidence that they prosper in areas that have lower education. They often go hand in hand with injury lawyers/pain management physicians. The answer is always the same with Chiros: see 1-3 X week for the rest of your life or until you can't pay.

They aren't even close to doctors, but there are some really useful ones.

That seems pretty steep for a back alley hj.

Chiros have their receptionists shooting xrays with ancient equipment most of the time. I dont want my thyroid, eyes, and nuts fried from overexposure, thank you. Give me a hospital with arrt licensed tech and modern equipment that doesnt emit enough radiation to kill a horse anyday.

Also google chiropracter and vertebral artery dissection. Their bullshite neck adjustments kill people.

Physical therapy would be my first course of action, If you are in Louisiana and many other states you can see a physical therapist without getting a physicians order for therapy.

Hell, there is even one in Pineville taking out full page advertisements in the newspaper running a fat clinic.
He also professes to cure knee pain.
Interesting that all of his "photos" of himself include the wife and kids.

in the sports medicine side yes, in the herbal ordeal side, i would say no, just like any profession the bad ones seemingly ruin and out number the good ones.

John Hymel is legit. He works with the LSU athletics program, as well as Olympic athletes. I see him and he's never once popped or manipulated me. I found it to be a lot more similar to physical therapy/rehab, to be honest. He did dry needling in my hardcore knots and then worked with me on a weekly basis to correct the way I was using certain muscles that resulted in overuse of some, and underuse of others. It was extremely beneficial and I actually need to start going again.
Yea if you're an athlete they have some chiropractors who are basically a mixture of physical therapists and masseuses. I think they're very good, personally, for tissue strains and pulls.
They can work knots and use all sorts of electrotherapy and deep needling and acupuncture. People in the States get all uppity about this sort of treatment, but it's very common outside of the US.
Are there quacks? Certainly, but if you go see a good one for the right injury, they can be very helpful.

These things are no better than placebo. In other words they are useless.

They are useful for personal injury attorneys to generate "medical bills" for people without actually sending them to an MD.

vertebral artery dissection.
This is REAL.
I look at multiple CT angiograms of the neck everyday.
I see dissections from chiropractor visits a couple times a year.
Doesn't always cause a stroke, but often enough that you will never see me or anyone I care about in a chiropractors office.
