IR couples in commercials is really oddly overdonePosted by Havoc

Not begrudging interracial couples at all. In fact most such couples I’ve been around seem great and I myself was always potentially into that (although never happened much). But seriously, seems like a notable majority of commercials depict an IR couple. Only saying because it’s so overboard.

Was just thinking about that - the probability of such a situation in real life is incredibly low

It’s an easy way to cover as many woke bases as possible.

Even Lily at AT&T has to have a POC counterpart to help sell phones.

It’s become a strange novelty - my mother in law is Hispanic (mostly Spanish but there is definitely Mayan heritage) and when we got married almost 20 years ago no one cared
Now weirdos marvel at our ‘interracial’ family - but we have blue eyed kids, blonde kids, and dark kids - no one knows we are ‘interracial’ unless they hear my MIL speak
And now it’s all over tv and magazines - who the hell cares?

Any straight white guy is also portrayed as a total broke back bitch of a "man".
About 2ish years ago, Black actors and celebutards cried about lack of diversity. And as always Whitey gave into 13% of the people, and it's obvious.
One day they won't need to have Whitey hold their hands.
Asians, Hispanics, etc don't need their hands held.

Why is it always a goofy looking white guy?

Usually a white dad who's a doofus. With black mom who's smart.
By over-representing it-they are telling you what they value most. Some might say beating you over the head with it. This is Correct Thinking. We instinctively realize, because it is constantly reinforced , that this is how virtuous people think in 2020. To notice the over-representation, opens you to Progressive judgement, insult and reputation destruction. It's how things work now.

quote:it really began about 20 years ago when the Oscars had no black acting nominees. People magazine ran a cover story saying this was a "national tragedy" -- or was it a "national disgrace"? I don't recall.
