They've been tracing you for years. They know everything you do, everyone you see, where you go, what you buy, and when. Not saying I like it, but contact tracing isn't any different than what they already have on you.

Again, Then why is this a NEW feature?

Simple people just hear buzz words like contact tracing and flip out.

You still haven't address the second part of the quote have you? Ill post it again so you can respond:
quote:
At some point in the future, Apple and Google will build this functionality directly into the operating systems of their phones so that you can be notified that you may have been exposed to COVID-19 even if you don’t have an exposure notification app installed on your phone.

Does it automatically run or do I have to enable it?

quote:Just turn off your Bluetooth when you aren't using it or get rid of your phone. Again, this isn't a new invasion of your privacy. It's consistent with the ongoing invasion of your privacy that you volunteer for by purchasing and using these products.

FWIW, I don't think this contact tracing will work. It relies on users to download and opt in. To be effective, I've read that 60% or more of phone owners would need to participate for it to be effective. Also, how will it prevent people from intentionally misleading the system by reporting false Covid diagnosis?

Hey, but I guess if nobody else cares then we deserve everything we get when the government decides you are a risk and quarantines you or your kids.

For those of you saying this, do you also hold the same beliefs in terms of Net Neutrality? As in if you don't like what ISPs do, you can choose to not have internet?

Contact tracing utilizes BLE, not Bluetooth.

This also has the potential to pave the way for Apple/Google/Overseer to have access to medical records "for the good of the people". Since, in its current form, their contact tracing plan is very inefficient relying on people to be willing to take the time, know how and volunteer report their COVID status or other health risk.
Silver lining though...It would be cool if your phone could alert you if you were about to bang some broad with an STD.

BLE (Bluetooth low energy)is Bluetooth technology, just using less battery. Can you not disable ble?

Sooooo...when do we start getting rid of the phones?

You can, but the point was that simply disabling Bluetooth won't prevent BLE from functioning.

HIPPA

If the app tells you that 1 of your contacts as Corona virus that is a violation of Hippa which protects your medical information
Spent some warning giving your medical information out to someone else who isn't ok'd by you is a direct violation of HIPAA

Only the dims that give the apps on their phones all the permissions they ask for and keep the GPS receiver active. Most of you suck when it comes to even basic cyber security practices.
