Heading to Costa Rica for a couple weeks and will be driving the entire country. Thought it would be a good idea to retain cell service for a just in case.

How does the service work internationally? Does my phone just use their towers and charge me a higher rate? Or is there a plan I can purchase and then cancel when I get back?

I have AT&T...

att has a plan where you pay $10 daily and basically use your phone like at home. Worked fine in Italy. Not sure about CR

AT&T works almost seamlessly, $10 day and simple 1+ dialing. They only charge by day you use service.

If your phone is unlocked, will be way cheaper to get a local SIM vs spending $10 a day. I called att and they unlocked my phone remotely.

international rates are asinine.

rent a phone from a peep there, or buy hours and stuff with a sim card from a dealer down there.

$10/day to use your phone as you do now is more asinine than this?

When I visited there last year, I just called Verizon and told them of my plans. I would do that just to be safe

the international day pass it awesome. $10 dollars a day (24hours). only if you turn on your phone. mirrors your plan. so if you have unlimited everything, then it would mirror that while in DR. if for some reason you have day air travel and dont really need your phone that day, it doesn't charge you. only the days you turn your phone on.

I just used it in Europe for three weeks, three different countries. worked beautifully without any issues in service or billing.

Check to see if you can do a from xx/xx/xx to xx/xx/xx plan. I forgot to turn mine off last time (AT&T) and caught my mistake on the next billing cycle.

I don’t know about down there, but in Europe they have vending machines where you just pick a plan, purchase with your credit card, and it spits out a SIM card. Plug that into your phone and your good to go. Very easy and cheaper than $10 per day if your going to be there a while.
