I'd be interested in knowing this too. If it is typical of some of the "problem" shops in this area, it is likely a combination of higher labor rates, oem parts vs aftermarket parts, unnecessary additional labor operations, and unnecessary additional misc fees.

If she doesn’t have any injuries, an attorney doesn’t want any part of your claim.

He stated that we would have to come out of pocket for a portion of the repairs $900.

Make sure to make it very clear on the parts being used. Adjusters will try and use non OEM parts to try and keep costs down. Make it clear you want to see an itemization from the shop and how the adjuster is substantiating this $900 out of pocket cost. It all sounds like a bunch of bullshite. If the adjuster wants to be difficult ask you speak to their supervisor. It sounds like the shop is being greedy. Simply take your wife’s car to a different shop, there’s too much excessive bullshite you’re having to put up with in dealing with the current shop.

I’m guessing the shop sent in a supplement for something additional

Typical, find more damage when the start removing items. Had this happen, but no issue with insurance covering supplemental.

I have the worst insurance company "progressive". My truck is in the body shop now. Progressive never even looked at it. I just sent pics. No preferred shop here in Nola either. They gave me a 2022 lariat for a rental and haven't said 1 thing about paying anything in damage which seems way overpriced to me.

***This is not legal advice***
Something to consider: insurance contracts spell out some specifics with respect to repairs-use of non-OEM parts, etc. If you’re going through the other driver’s insurance, you’re not a party to their contract.

your body shop works for you, not usaa. Don't let usaa dictate what your body shop does. on the other hand, your body shop needs to justify (to you) whatever there is a dispute about. If you cannot resolve it, file a claim with your collision carrier, pay your deductible and let them collect from usaa.
