I’ve joked and complained about having insomnia before and did all the reading etc. I have some prescribed medicine somewhere for it but didn’t get it last night. And honestly don’t like taking it I used to take a lot of melatonin with mixed success. But does anyone else have major issues from insomnia?

I went to sleep at 10 last night and woke up at like 3AM. Couldn’t go back to sleep. I knocked out all the work for the day I could at like 6. And now all I have left is dealing with issues for the day and I can’t deal with them effectively. Because I feel drunk and furious from exhaustion. The moment I come across something my brain is to foggy to remember, I just go into a black rage. Good at hiding it from coworkers other than I ask them stupid fricking obvious questions.

When I have trouble falling asleep, I watch two things on YouTube: Bob Ross painting pictures (including a squirrel here and there) and classic chess game analysis. While both are fun/interesting to me, I usually don’t last more than 20 minutes.

I sleep really bad right before I work. On my days off, I take a trazadone because I find it only works for me if I can sleep til I naturally wake up.

Sleep is overrated.

When your body needs sleep, you'll sleep.

I have trouble falling asleep, but once I'm down I sleep great. Ill usually get tired in the afternoons, but when it gets to about 10PM Ill be wide open. Even if I lay down Ill just toss and turn until 2-3 in the morning. I used to take Melatonin but it makes me groggy as hell the next day and I hate how weird the dreams are. It sucks but somethings U have to get used to.

These are just the 2-3 nights a week I dont drink

I had trouble staying asleep for more than two or three hours. Turns out I don't have that problem if I refrain from drinking alcohol. So I quit drinking and I sleep great.

Gotta say though, I've never really figured out why or how alcohol was disrupting my sleep. I've tried to ask a couple of doctors without getting a real answer.

10 MG of melatonin, deep breathing meditation, put phone where you can’t reach it, sleep in as dark room as possible, try a weighted blanket, avoid naps during the day, try some new pillows, smoke indica dominant if life allows, eat a bowl of cereal right before you lay down, drink one or two (no more) beers or 1 shot of whisky or glass of red wine, have a good stretch before you lay down... insomnia is horrible, if you can’t sleep you can’t function.

I have been dealing with the same thing for years. I finally went to a sleep doctor and I’m not having that problem much anymore. Major changes were not to go to bed until you are sleepy. I was going to bed at 8-8:30 because I knew I would not sleep much. I took melatonin and unisom before bed to help fall asleep. Now I go to bed around 10:30 and get up at 6.

My mind racing also kept me awake. Writing a list of things to do at work the next day helped unpack my mind. I also found several podcasts with a monotone speaker in a subject interesting enough to keep my attention. One AirPod at low volume and no screen viewing helps lull me to sleep.

Keep regular hours and get up at the same time everyday. Doctor advised bedroom is only for sleeping and sex. When you wake up at 3 am and can’t sleep, get up and go to another room and sit quietly/read until you get sleepy again. Don’t lie awake in your bed.

Hope something here helps.
