Violent offenders and those who cannot be rehabilitated need to be housed in completely different facilities than those inmates who are in for non-violent or most first time offenses. Your guy in prison for 2-4 years on a drug charge or first time burglary is usually trying to keep his head down and make it out so he can hopefully turn his life around. Your guys who have been in 3,4, 5 times or the guys who are sentenced to 20+ years for violent offenses don't have anything to lose. They're animals and need to be kept far away from other inmates.

They shouldn't grant his wish and not give him the death penalty.

If you're wondering just how understaffed South Carolina prisons are, just look at the fact that they were able to commit 4 separate murders casually without a guard ever noticing.

Just two officers were assigned to the dorm, which housed 139 inmates, Corrections Director Bryan Stirling told lawmakers in April.

He said pay that starts at $33,600 and chronic low funding from the Legislature make it almost impossible to even approach the national standard of four officers for every 30 inmates.

Damn. That is not enough pay.

They advertise heavily for open positions. Nobody will work there. It is just too unsafe for the crappy pay. I'd rather go work at McDonald's.

What does a guard make at a Louisiana prison?

I'm all for a penal colony for the worst of the worst. Give them supplies but basically let them do their thing. If they want to kill each other, fine. If they want to start a productive society and live their lives in relative "freedom", fine.

If they WANTED the death penalty:

Paper-Rock-Scissors to determine which kills the other.

"Winner" gets killed (as wanted)..."Loser" gets the Death Penalty for killing the other (as wanted)

Win-Win

clowns have no logical ability at all!

I had two clients at Lieber Correctional in Ridgeville and the staff didn't look much different than the inmates.

Why? If it's the absolute scum of humanity who have committed horrific crimes why do they even begin to deserve such a second chance?

People need to nut up and accept the fact that for some cases there is no redemption here on Earth. Just put them down as an example to others and move on.

I hear it every day on the radio, I don't know how much it would take to staff those jobs...but $35k ain't doing it.

Because it's never been shown to be any kind of deterrent to crime. Also, with the appeals process and whatnot it costs nearly $100k/yr more than someone given a life sentence.
